Dear Ian,
Bit puzzled over the question, or perhaps I don't understand it, because it's very easy to set an Alarm for Agenda items in UIQ. In fact it works exactly the same as in Eikon. Just scroll down the window and you will see an Alarm checkbox. When you have ticked the box, the remainder of the dialogue items will be accessible where you can set the exact ring time.
Kind regards

Re: Funny behaviour & some reflections
I had the exact same thing happen with my Mc218, twice. I am currently on my second MC218 but if I recall correctly, both crashes were with my original MC218 and both times were fixed by removing the batteries for a while and replacing them.
The first time it happened was quite the panic! I tried soft resets and hard resets even removing the batteries for a few minutes but nothing happened! Then, with nothing to loose, I removed the batteries and let it sit uncharged for several hours. Once the batteries were replaced, a fresh new MC218 (at least softwarewise).
The second time it happened to me I wasn't worried, I knew to remove the batteries for an hour or so and everything would be okay. Since after the first crash, I make daily backups, I only lost a little bit of information.
It apparently takes some time for all residual charge to leave the device once the batteries are removed. As to how long the residual charge lasts? I have heard everything from 15 minutes to overnight. Obviously 5 or six months with the batteries out will do the trick ;-). I guess if the crash is serious enough then the actual cause could reside in the residual charge.
Glad yours is back up and running. It's like it woke up unexpectedly from a coma!

Subject: Psion 5mx Hard reset
Thanks Itamar,
However the desired effect did not take place.
The reason for my wanting to do a hard resent was the fact that all my
Icon values had moved to the right, for example if I pressed Contact I
got Sheet and so on. Word is Word but so is Sheet. Jotter
disappeared.
Any suggestions ?
TIA
Charles Davies
P.S. All my important stuff is always on CF anyway but thanks for
reminder.

Subject: MC218 long reset
What happened was that the hardware (electronics) were confused. A soft reset would do nothing, since the power would still be in the circuits. Even taking the batteries out and putting them in again doesn't guarantee that all charge is gone. As you found out, leaving the device without power for a longer time (30 mins is normally enough!) allows the electronics to 'start from scratch'.

Subject: 9300 clock and calendar mess
Hi everyone,
I'm playing around with the clock function on the 9300 in preparation for a trip to the US next week - I change my Home City to my intended destination and the hour changes too. That's great. But then I go into Calendar and find that every single carefully timed entry has had the time adjusted too! So a meeting scheduled for 9 am is now at 2 am, and so forth! Yes, there is a warning message "Device and calendar entries" will be changed by X hours", but what on earth is the idea behind this?? When I schedule a meeting I note the hour on local time, certainly not my home time, and I do NOT want the calendar entry adjusted. Is there any way to turn this "feature" off?
I will be hopping over several time zones next week and if I can't get this solved quickly, it will be a major pain in a**e. Please help!
Ciao

Welcome back, Franco. Glad you got your Psion working again. I had a somewhat similar occurrence with my 5mx a few days ago. The paperclip method didn't work. I ended up removing the 2 AA (alkaline) batteries and the backup battery for a few minutes. The 5mx came back to life and I did a restore. Luckily I had just done a C drive backup right before the 5mx died. Since I have almost everything on the D drive (which I backup via a card reader) it took only about 3 minutes for the restore - I'm using 10% of the C drive.

Subject: Laptop connecting
I am about to acquire a laptop and am aware of Psion/USB connectivity issues.
Rather than buy a USB/Serial adaptor cable, I wondered about a docking station or port replicator [Targus do the latter for a reasonable £40 or so]. This would provide, along with a lot of other useful sockets, a serial - RS-232 - 9 pin D-Sub (DB-9) socket [I quote!] which looks about right.
Has anyone tried this? If not, what advice would you give?
Thanks,
Nigel

Subject: 9500 Bluetooth keyboard
<Dear Psioneers and Nokians
My biggest problem with the 9500 as a replacement for my 5mx was my inability to touch type on it - this problem has now been solved! Yesterday I bought a Bluetooth keyboard which works with my Nokia 9500. It is a Freedom Keyboard from freedomkeyboard.com. Three weeks ago they released a driver for the 9500. I am typing this email on it and and learning all the functions at present, but I think I am going to be very happy with it. >
Sounds just what we "Nokians" have been waiting for, Max. It sounds great and I'll be having a look for one here in the UK. As you say, it does mean another box to carry but that's always going to be the user's own choice and the user can always use the not too bad integrated keyboard when they don't wish to carry those two boxes around. The 9500 keyboard can never be as good as a 5mx's simply due to it's smaller size but it's this smaller size compared with the 5mx that makes me love the 9500 so much now.
To all:
Has anyone successfully linked a decent quality pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones to a 9500? Although my standard PopPort wired ones work OK I do find them cheap and tacky and even though I now know from this Digest that one can get a PopPort to standard jack adaptor to connect any standard wired headphones the dangling wires drive me nuts, always getting tangled or trying to strangle me on the train! I have a 21st century PDA and want 21st century connectivity. I have even sometimes just used my Bluetooth boom earpiece to listen to music to avoid tangling wires for convenience but the quality of that leaves a lot to be desired (no stereo either) so it's not really suitable for listening to music on. However, the sheer convenience of no wires is lovely.

To Itamar
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry if I did not explain myself clearly enough.
- Of course I had converted the files to EPOC word and Excel format, with PsiWin. But they were still write protected, or could not be found on the nB.
- Of course I had tried both soft and hard reset many times in order to make MC218 behave again. No success.
So my conlusion must be that nobody has any any theories about what might have happened?
- As for your suggestion to buy a netBook, mBook or even a S7, it's frustrating. Because that's precisely what just I had done, and it was then that I ran into the problems.
So I hardly feel encouraged to do it again.

Subject: Psion hell, Alarms in UIQ Agenda,
Answer to: Keith Clarke
Re.: Psion hell - I stopped using the Compuserve Classic account a long time ago after they had yet again changed the scripts somehow and there was no-one around anymore to update the script. However, with the cheap phone calls in Europe nowadays why don't you try with a phone card just to dial the number and connect straight to your ISP in the UK (you are in the UK, right ?) ? Whenever I travel I use GPRS to connect to my ISP without any problems and I don't think it is that expensive, but the business pays. Is anyone still using Compuserve Classic account or does anyone know of another ISP with local phone numbers in Europe and/or the world that can be used with a Psion ?
Answer to: Ian Chapple
Re.: Alarms in UIQ Agenda - No, also with Handy Day 2004 it is not possible to choose the alarm for each separate alarm. I played around with Aquagenda recently but already deleted it from my phone as it does not show the tasks and sms's in the day view like Handy Day.
