Hi Moshe,
I was in N.Y. this summer and used my 9500 a lot (phoning and receiving mails via GPRS) it worked fine...don't know if this helps you...
As for the R.O.A.D., it reminds me more of my old 5mx, I think the keys are somewhat similar...I will take a closer look at one of these machines as soon as they will be available, preferably with Symbian OS :)

Moshe, from what I have been able to research on the net, if you get an unlocked Nokia 9500 you can plug in a SIM card from your cell provider and it should work. You need to be on a GSM cell network. In the US T-Mobile and Cingular use GSM, but probably not everywhere.

Subject: Be careful on eBay
Thank you Greg and Itamar for you comments on my EBay experience. Yes looking back I did see some things that didn't look quite right and even thought about it. But bought it anyway---at least paid for it. Yes maybe it will show up--it would be nice.
Thanks,
Bob

Just in case anyone is wondering, the Sony Ericsson P800, P900 and P910 also work excellently with the ER5 based Psions over Infrared. GSM and GPRS modem connection work. File transfer, most importantly Contacts generated vCard, works via CBeam or plBeam.

>A related question: Some time ago someone posted info on an upcoming ROAD pda/smart-phone, which looks similar to the 9500 and seems to be a >very promising potential 5mx replacement. Thank you for this link. I notice they claim to have a Symbian OS version in the works. This looks very interesting. I would assume they are after licencing Series 80 (enabling its currently hidden touch screen features) or using UIQ3.
If a Symbian version is in the works, finally a company who might understand the two-box-both-Symbian demand and market opportunity which we argued in the netBook Pro Symbian document.
As I'm quite interested in this as well I will contact them.
The unit looks very appealing to me with proper keys.
To your original question: the 9500 is a fantastic machine. But it's not a replacement for the 5mx.
Kind regards

Oh please no, not again. I subscribe to the Digest via a mobile phone for info regarding all things Psion-related, not to down-load another protracted discussion on Darwenism. Why not email each other off-Digest - I'm sure you'd have a great time?
Me? ........I'm losing the will to live on this topic.

Subject: WinEpoc 3.5, MBook wiped?
1. Has anyone yet installed the new version of WinEpoc - and found it safe and worth while?
2. My MBook languished unused while I was abroad and for several weeks thereafter. Now when plugged in, it only displays the "My Schoolbook, My Way to Knowledge screen. I take it that this means that the battery ran down and I have to reinstall the OS, which is on the CF card. But I can't recall how to go about that. I looked at the OS txt file on the CF
card, but I can't follow those instructions for reinstallation because no matter what I top on the screen, nothing happens. Can someone please advise?

1 Will the above machine even link with a PCMCIA Wireless Card ? <<
No, it won't. This version of the OS does not contain the necessary drivers.
>>2 Is there a particular PCMCIA adapter that I should use with the Psion? I have tried just inserting a PCMCIA Flash Card adapter that have used successfully with my laptop but receive the message that "No disk is present"<<
The Buffalo card works well, and doesn't block the stylus hole. However, you would first have to upgrade your Series 7 to a 7book by obtaining a netbook personality module.
>>3 Like wise when the Wireless Card that I used with my laptop is inserted into the 7 nothing happens this time either ...Could this be a faulty drive "E" and if so where is the best place to have it repaired?<<
Nope, just no drivers.
Hope this help, Ian.

Subject: netPad battery problems resolved
After downgrading the operating system of my "new" netPad to Release 1.75(247) the battery gauge now works as intended. The release notes for the most recent version (1.76) state that changes were made to the power and battery management software. My netPad is probably to old to work reliably with release 1.76. 1.75 seems to be fine.
Can the netPad owners please check the ROM size of their devices? (System->Information->Machine->Hardware). Mine has just 15 MB of ROM which is not enough to accommodate the Tao JVM. Has anybody tried this JVM?

The 9300 Messaging application allows you to import SMS messages from the
SIM, but it doesn't seem to allow you to export to the SIM.

Subject: Psion 5mx v. iPaq 5500 v. Nokia 9500
Just to say that after have had my 5mx brought back from the dead
after having abandoned it for best part of 12 months I was absolutely
amazed at the speed it finds contacts as opposed to my other two PDAs
above.
The iPaq for input with stencil is slow and then you have to try
alternatively for Company name or Personal name both seem to take
forever.
The 9500 is far easier and quicker than the iPaq but again cannot come
anywhere near the 5mx.
These are searches on a 1500 record database.
Just my sixpennies worth.
