I bought a Nokia 6210e a few years ago.  It's the only cellphone that I've owned (got my first in May 1987) where the battery had lasted a long time - still on original battery.

It does work with EPOC Psions for e-mails and sending faxes.  But there were problems with corruption of faxes on it's replacement, the 6310.

I still use the 6210.

In that case, yes.  I conceder all EPOC machines very stable, if fact more stable than any other OS I've used since the late 1070s.  Apart for poor apps.  I found MBMView the worst as it was not able to handle some small files of maps, that RealMaps were OK with.  MBMView just used up memory until the Psion stopped working due to lack of memory.

But I've had my new 5mxPRO crash twice, running the same apps as on a normal 5mx of which I've got two.  Also again running the same apps on both my 7 and nB, the nB has crashed occasionally over the years and I've had the nB for a slightly shorter time.

Even so I still say that they are all very stable - it's just that the ROM versions are more stable than the RAM versions of OS.

We now live in a world where it's the technology that's more important than the function doing what the user wants.  I remember working on the first lasers - 1 metre long 15mm diam. glass tubes with a massive 27Mc/s power supply.  We frequently discussed what job could they be used for, as they were just research projects, without any use.  Eventually, I saw a 6" diam. laser cut through a razor blade.  Now most new computers have one!

Once and for all, Word/Documents on the 9500/9300 have (nearly) exactly the same keystroke combos as Word on the Psion. Chr plus nav-left = Home, Chr + nav-right=End, chr+nav-up=Page up, chr+nav-down=Page down, ctrl+chr+nav-up = Top of document, and so on.

Also works in email messages, obviously, and when writing OPL programs.

Re.: Route66 for UIQ - I am very interested in reading your remarks about your experience with Route 66. I am still in doubt whether to get Tomtom Mobile 5 or Route66. Steve wrote in his review that the Tomtom application is much more refined and the search for addresses is a lot easier. However, it is more expensive and than you also have to get the European maps separately while with Route66 you can buy the European version.

Subject: SmallBase Problem

I have been trying to set up a simple database in SmallBase on my 9500 to record and analyze my car fuel use. I need to calculate the difference between the present odometer reading and the previous reading to calcuate the mileage covered on the tank full. I thought that I would be able to do this as a formula, but formulas only seem to apply to the present record. Is there any other way of doing this?

Many thanks,
Martin
