Subject: My favourite UIQ program
I started this idea but did not yet write about my own favourite program. After having used Handy Day 2004 for over a year I recently decided to try Handy Day 2005 Pro. It appeared quickly that this program had matured from it's original problems and is now a might powerful diay and tool.
The program looks very good and is a pleasure to use. It works around a number of "skins" which give it a different look as to your liking and a set of plug-ins that allow you to program it according to your own requirements and/or needs. It has 6 pages, 4 pages for flip open use and 2 pages for flip closed use (although I hardly use it in flip closed status). Each page you can program with any combination of plug-ins you need from a day overview to a dayview to a week view for the diary, various shortcuts to programs and control panel functions, shortcuts to contacts, world times, temperatures in differfent cities (you can update these via GPRS f.o.c.), etc. The total list is appointments, contacts, control panel, Date, Memory info, New messages, News, Quotes, SMS list, Tasks, Time alarms, Weather, Week, World clock. Almost each choice is programmable again with several choices. How does my diary looks now ?
Page 1 with which it opens : Calendar, day overview (entries only), Tasks (give number only, one of the few criticisms I have got, although it does show them in the dayview on my page 2), shortcuts to my most used programs, some shortcuts to frequently used control panel choices, and shortcuts to 4 contacts (members of my family). On this page I cannot update the diary entries, that can be done on page 2 (in my set-up).
Page 2 - this page is my basic diary with the weekview and dayview screens where I can update my diary and/or check my schedule on any day.
Page 3 - this is my weather and times in the world page, showing me the weather in London and the next place I will travel to, as well as the time in 6 different places in the world.
Page 4 - This is the news service for when I am not at home to keep up to date with the latest news.
I think this program is a big enhancement for my P910i and I can advise any user to give it a try. The only other disadvantage in comparison to Handy Day 2004 is that the earlier version allowed for separate pages of shortcuts for "private" and "business" and other needs which does not exist in the latest version.
Besides this program my favourite ones are contacts, smartmovie, bridge, hearts and Profimail.
Best regards,

Wrote a great long reply disputing this, but then I tried using the joystick instead of the cursor keys. That's how you do it! There's also Ctrl-nav-up/down to move between paragraphs, and Ctrl-nav-left/right to move between words.
Thanks Steve for making me aware of these!
Cheers!

Subject: Smallbase
Martin,
There are two types of field to do calculations in Smallbase, "Calc" and "Formula". Formula only does calculations on the currently displayed table, Calc will do sum, average etc of a field in selected records in any table (selection is by a filter which can look at the values in any field, not just the one you are using.)
Often to get a particular result one needs to get some data out using a Calc field, which need not be displayed in your table, and then calculate it
using Formula.
However, I think your car mileage analysis is much better suited to a spreadsheet rather than a database. If you have lots of different records
and want to analyse things about them, Smallbase does it fine, but sequential records like this are much simpler on a spreadsheet...

Martin, I use Sheet on my Revo+ for this. I tried out a 9300 in a shop,
but rejected it, before I got as far as looking to see if there was a
Sheet app.
I type in date, mileage, ltrs bought, full tank or part fill, cost in £
or pence/ltr (the other one is calculated).
It displays, MPG, Average MPG (moving average of this and previous two
fills), distance between fills, cost in £ for 100 miles, pence/gallon
(so that I can relate to prices in 'real terms' that my ageing mind can
relate to).
I've recently added a column for, cost in €, € cents/ltr, €/£ conversion
rate. The last is a copy of the cell above, so only needs to be changed
each time I move £s from my UK bank a/c to €s in my German bank a/c.
The Euro extra entries automatically transfer into the Sterling columns.
However, this Sheet was a temporary Sheet until I finished an OPL app,
but I've never found time to finish it. (It's quicker to evaluate
what's needed in Sheet before writing in OPL.)
Hope this will give you some ideas for your own needs.

PS: When I finish the app, it will be freeware.
