Hi Trygve - glad to see you're back (if you were ever away). Haven't seen any posts from you for ages.

I don't know of any "manual" but because I had a lot of trouble understanding Macro5, I made some notes about it. You can find them at my home page:

It probably won't help you with remapping the Ctrl key, but maybe will get you using Macro5 for other things.

I bought a Series 7, soon after Psion announced shutting up shop and the prices started to fall. I was having a difficulty deciding which to buy - a 7 of nB and as the 7 was now a bit cheaper, I jumped.
Later when David ?? started to sell netBooks, I bought one and an extra battery. The spare's voltage was zero on receipt, so I quickly gave it a full charge. I was surprised that it gave no problems.
I rotate the three batteries - 7 to nB to spare to 7 - once a month.
The spare gets little use most of the time, but heavy at certain times.
In use, I always run the battery until a warning occurs (except when doing heavy disk writes, which is not very often) then charge. It's at this point that I do a rotate if the month is up, so that it's always fully charged for storage or use to swap a flat away from mains. But I've now just got an inverter full-time in my motor for mains anywhere.
I use ChaDis on all my EPOC Psions and get 6 hours use, before a recharge is required now that I'm not using the gold card modem, when I got a little less.
I use a Windows XP laptop that is 2 years old, so younger that the 7 n& nB. It has been used regularly with mains power, so the battery is nearly always fully charged. It gets much less use than any Psion, but when needed to use on it's own battery (also Lithium), I have problems.
Fully charged the night before, the battery will often last for only a few minutes. At other times up to half an hour if I'm lucky. It also gets an occasional full discharge until it turns off automatically, monthly.
Conclusion:
Used until flat and then recharge - good performance.
Use with mains charger in use, so fully charged - poor performance.
That's my experiences.

I also had a problem with my 7, as the power connector appeared to go 'floppy'. I opened it up, but found no problem with the PCB mounted skt.
Then Ian Colvin <address truncated> wrote:-

The first worked, but the second failed.
My current problem (not a power problem, although it's current !!!!) is that the screen flat connector is loose in my netBook and the solution of pressing the logo badge does not solve it.
So I need to remove, clean and replace that connection. But I can't see any details anywhere and I don't want to force it and break it.
Any suggestions for removing that connection?

I'd like to swap the 'Menu' & 'Fn' keys, so that my 7, nB, 5mx, 5mxPRO and Revo+ are all the same.
Any suggestions.

Subject: My netBook and others battery charging pattern
Hi,
I keep my netBookon the charger almost all the time. It sits open on my desk acting as my primary diary and contact database. From time to time, I need to take it along, e.g . for wrinting something or
to have it with me just in case. This seldom drains the battery but it has happend more then once.
I didn't do any mesurements, but the battery seems to hold a charge for several hours of work.
My netBook PRO (you should know that I'm a geek, shouldn't you?) sits on the living room table to
serve as a wireless surfing machine, mainly to query Google or Wikipedia. The usage pattern is therefore totally different: The machine is used off batteries as long as possible. When a low battery warning appears, it gets connected to the charger overnight and then promptly disconnected for further use.
My newly acquired netPad sits on the desk, just to play around with it. At the moment, I keep it on the docking station. The battery gauge is still a little bogus, telling me that the charge isn't better much than 30% but at full 8.4 Volts. I'm going to run it off batteries for a while and see what happens.
My wife's Mako typically is on a weekly recharge schedule. She isn't using it actively too often but it keeps her contacts and appointments. On weekends, she checks the battery gauge and decides
whether to let it charge overnight or not. It seems to hold a charge good for a few hours of working but her usage pattern simply calls for much more standby time than anything else. ChaDis doesn't tell too much about the expected battery life if the machine would be in constant use.

Subject: Noisy netBook Spacebar
Hello to all,
my netBook PRO makes a distracting klick noise when I press the spacebar. My netBook doesn't, so I know that it's not normal. The key works normally, it's just that loud noise.
Is there an easy fix for this short of turning the machine in for repair.

> You do have on touch dial for the numbers 1 to 9, called speeddial. Yes and no. On my old Nokia, you could dial these numbers by pressing and holding any particular digit - this called the number for you. On my P910i, I have contacts assigned to the various digits but to call one of these, you need to use 2 keys: forst the relevant digit followed by the "OK" key. It seems like a small difference, but in practice I find the Nokia way infinitely better.
>How do you find jABP onthe P910 ?
As I said, ABP is much better and the larger screen allows much more information to be seen and more functionality to be provided. Some of the things I miss on JABP include the running balance column, the ability to edit a transaction that was located using the find function, single character account selection, etc. The bottom line is that if you have a choice, use ABP as you currently do. My old 5MX is dead so I don't have that option anymore but, having said that, JABP on the P910 does work *very well* considering the limitations imposed by the platform and the generic nature of the Java development environment. I have looked at other personal finance programs for the P910 and found there to be very little real choice: Most use the terrible visual basic appforge booster, many have no proper import/export facilities and also suffer from poor performance and - last but not least - have no companion PC version which can work from the native data when your phone is unavailable .
Why are Documents to Go Word and Sheet better than the Quick ones ?
If you just want document readers, the ones that come with the phone are ok. If you ever need to edit or create a document or spreadsheet, it is essential to use Documents To Go. The Quick ones suffer from very poor data integrity and insist on creating a new document if you want to do any edits. As I said in my previous email, they also have some very irritating bugs and I can't understand how they were released onto the phone in their current condition.
Never got Avantgo to work with my phone, can you elaborate on this program ?
AvantGo allows you to download web content for later viewing. The best place to download the content is when your phone is in it's cradle, connected to a PC which has a - free to use - internet connection. The idea is that you can later view this content without incurring expensive comms charges. If your commute involves spending lots of time on trains and buses, then this is ideal. First, go to www.avantgo.com and register yourself as a user. I have a basic account which is free, and this allows for about 3 MB of content. Download the software for your phone and install it (I use the latest version 5.7 Build 35). You then select the channels (offline content from participating web sites). You can browse what is available by category; A good place to start is the BBC News Channel. You can also create a "Personal Channel" and this allows you to setup any web site as a channel. I use this but find that mostly text-based sites work best here (Most news sites have a no graphics/ PDA version available).
Once your channels are configured on avantgo and the software is installed and configured on your device and your have answered the various questions during installation correctly, you are ready to go: This involves selecting the sync option on the device. Special note: Occasionally, this does not work. If this happens, simply remove the P910 from it's cradle for a few seconds and then replace it.

Re.: Using the power supply for the Netbook - I can second your remarks as I do exactly the same with my mBook battery and it works very well. I have more than one battery and change them over form time to time as well.

Same subject : I think you are wrong. I have definitely charged my mBook battery considerably more times than 500 and it is still going strong as ever.
To All:
Re. Bluetooth on a plane - Sitting on a plane traveling back home again from a short business trip I found out something rather annoying. I wanted to play around with my new bluetooth keyboard and tried to switch it on with the P910 in flight mode. Guess what .... bluetooth will only work if the phone function is on and not in flight mode. This means you cannot use a bluetooth keyboard with a P910 while flying. That is extremely annoying as I am used to download my emails before the flight leaves, working on the answers during the flight and sending them out again after landing. This means I can't do that without taking my mBook with me. Does anyone know of a way to circumvent this ?
Best regards,
