Ian you must be unusual in this respect. Since the first 'Pocket Phone' made by Pye, communication radios have always lasted longer than the batteries.<<
I wasn't saying (at least I didn't intend to) that I replace my devices before the batteries die. What I meant was that a huge percentage of the mobile phone owning public change their phones on a regular basis, not because they break down but because they choose to; because of this, battery life is rarely an issue...

Subject: RE: sending mail with 7book
Some wanted more info on this issue. I have EarthLink as my ISP. I have been using it and my 7book, Netbook and 5mx for years no problem. Here is when it went off on me---my network--home by the way, not office---so I got with D-Link maker of my wireless router and we had to reset some stuff on it to get it to work. My PC works fine and like I said my 7book does everything but send. I could be wrong, but I would think if its SMTP or other problems why would it do everything but send. If I can find my cable for my PC card modem, I will see if I can send the old fashioned way by dial up. Then at least I know its not my 7book---unless there is someway that I have to identify the change that we did to my router. One person thought that I might need to reinstall my OS and that is not a problem if it would work. Not sure what else you would need to know. I don't remember having specific settings on my 7book based on the router. It has worked for many years like it is.
Thanks,
Bob

AA's are now a very good option. You can buy rechargeable 2100 mAH cells that recharge in less than 2 hours, tops.
Those using digital cameras will find these cells very
convenient. The charger I got even plugs into vehicle 12-v lighter sockets.

Subject: Maps for Ireland
Ed Kaneen said "The implications of this for Irish politics are unclear, since the box definitely says it covers "Great Britain"!"
I can comment on this by way of the following explanations:
GB: This is primarily England, Wales and Scotland but also includes the various islands dotted around the coast.
UK: Full name is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland"
NI: Northern Ireland: The 6 counties in the North of Ireland that are part of the UK
The North of Ireland: Geographical description for an arbitrary area in the northern part of the Island. Typically includes Donegal which is not part of the 6 counties/NI.
And by the way, the above is just by way of factual, objective explanation. Any discussions beyond this tend to get a bit more, eh, subjective ... On the basis of this, I am not surprised that you have no maps for any part of Ireland on a box that says "Great Britain".
All the best from Dublin, Ireland

Answer to: Ed Kaneen & Tim
Re.: Street Planner & maps for Ireland - True, Citymaps does not have maps for Ireland but TomTom Routeplanner Europe does have maps for Eire. Maybe there are no computer maps available for cities in Ireland ? Or maybe TomTom thought they can't read them there .... ? (just joking).

Re.: Mbook Corrupt Files Problem - I don't know the answer to your problem, I never had that problem. You can use Atelier check disk to check the disk and correct any faults but it might not help with the corrupt files. I think it is healthy for any computer to run a checkdisk from time to time. Did you try to make a back-up and do a hard reset ?

Hi Larch,
What is your mobile phone? My Sony K700i will not connect the psion to the internet, though the terminal program can talk to it. My T68 was OK. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Subject: Mbook corrupt files
Melvin,
I know there is a bug in the Mbook when you try to copy a file over another (cut and paste) it says file corrupt and you have to delete the original then copy the new one.
Having said that this is obviously a new problem. Can you try to edit the CF in a card reader?
I did manage to corrupt a file in a CF and it did cause wierd problems but I was able to copy most of the files then format the CF and copy the good ones back.
But if it is on C you may need to reset.

Subject: Re: Help - Mbook corrupt files - reprise
Dear Melvin,
>>,I posted this appeal for help on the 21st and have received no replies. , So I'll try again:
I don't know the answer but I did have similar experiences before.
I corrupted directories and files before by transferring files from my PC to my netBook's CF card while the card is read via a usb card-reader.
This only occurs when I try to move or transfer files into a directory on the CF card. By limiting my file transfers to the root directory I have avoided this problem.
Cheers,
Koi Hin
