Answer to: All
Re.: mBook problem ? - Two days ago I got the "shock of my life". I came home from work and when I opened my mBook it would not switch on anymore. Whatever I did, nothing seemed to work and I got quite worked up that it was the end of my "Psion life". Then I moved the sliding switch on button a little (until than I only tried it with Fn+Esc) and suddenly it came to life again and worked without problems. I suppose the sliding switch must have been stuck or something like that. Did anyone have anything like this happen as well ? Since then it works without any problems and without fail. Is this a sign of upcoming problems or not ?

Re.: sending mail with 7book - Thanks for the additional information. I don't think there is anything wrong with your 7book. If you want to test it, download Mppp and connect via your PC to the internet to send email. I think it is a problem with the wireless system, but I don't know enough about these systems to advise you. I suggest you get someone in who knows about wireless systems to sort it out.

Gary I've had a 12 volt charger for some time, but finding it took a
long time. I found one in Germany. I wanted one with a slow charge as
they are better for the battery than the more readily available fast
chargers.

OK Ian, that I could agree with. I've never discarded a cellphone
simply because I wanted a new one, but there must be many who consider
their phone a fashion statement, that is cheaper to replace than a car!
The young folk with more money than sense, often spend more on their
phones (new hardware & call charges) that I do on my mortgage. But
that's their choice.

RE: sending mail with 7book
Earthlink has changed the security on their SMTP servers. I don't recall the exact date this occured (I believe that it was a little over a year ago) but I do remember having to reconfigure my computers at home.
Since then, I have been unable to send email with my MC218 and is you do not have any SMTP authentication solution installed on your 7book, then you will not be able to send through Earthlink's SMTP server either.
I think that I recall Jim Watson-Gove addressing the digest with a similar problem a while back. Sorry I did not respond to him at the time.
I have no personal experience with using any of the SMTP authentication solutions for EPOC32 devices but I know they have been discussed in past digests.
Maybe someone would be kind and offer an explanation of the various SMTP authentication solutions for EPOC32?

Hi all,
Ed Kaneen said "The implications of this for Irish politics are unclear, since the box definitely says it covers "Great Britain"!"
Alan Rabbitte said "I am not surprised that you have no maps for any part of Ireland on a box that says "Great Britain"."
Although this doesn't allow for the fact that it doesn't appear in Street Planner Europe either!?!?!?!? The last time I looked, Ireland (both parts) were included in Europe. Seems they have been missed on both accounts!!!

Subject: netBook OS.IMG
My netBook suddently froze while at a meeting. Keyboard and touch
screen stopped working. I could do nothing until I returned home to do
a hard reset because I never think to carry the os.img CF card with
me. If I had had that card with me, I could have done a hard
reset right there, load the os.img, and done a restore from
FastBackup.
As a trial, when I returned home I put a copy of the os.img on my
regular D drive CF, did a hard reset and it found the os.img file and
the netBook was working again.
Now I'm wondering, is there any reason one should *not* keep a copy of
the os.img on the D drive along with your normal D drive
folders/files? Any possible problems?

No that's what I meant. The 5mx does not support USB unless someone develops a USB driver and appropriate hardware. What I was meaning to say is that I use a CF USB plug as *the USB key*. In other words, I can take the CF out of the "CF USB key" and plug it into the 5mx. Then I can take the CF out of the 5mx, plug it back into the "CF USB key" and plug it into a PC.

Subject: AA batteries
> The Digest Thu, 02 Feb 2006 Volume 01 : Number 882
The last of the batteries for my Ericcson SH888 mobile phone is nearly dead. I don't seem to be able to buy replacements here. That is the third (and soon fourth, for I have two) phone to be thrown away due to dead batteries. I am utterly sick and tired of these battery life problems. Plus I am often in areas where either charging power access is a problem (generator goes off at night), or where access is by light plane with stringent weight limits on luggage. I really don't want to carry more than one charger under these circumstances. Alas, I have been unable as yet to find a phone that works on AA rechargeable batteries.

I won't buy a digital camera that doesn't work on AA rechargeables. If there isn't an SLR that uses AA, then I won't buy an SLR. So far I have always been able to find a camera that works on AA.

I wish I could find something like that for my Ericsson phone. Maybe when that last battery dies I'll try to convert the case into an AA carrier.

I stand corrected! Although, as one who grew up on the Isle of Man, which
isn't part of the UK at all, maybe I can be excused for being confused about
the goings on on the "mainland"!
Mea culpa,

Bob,
>I could be wrong, but I would think if its SMTP or other problems why would it do everything but send.
Because SMTP is just about sending mail, receiving mail is a matter of POP3 (or IMAP4). Providers
have recently required their customers to use a username and password for sending mail which was
not neccessary when the Psion mail application was designed. Therefore you need an additional piece
of software to add authentication to the SMTP protocol for outgoing mail.
Have you tried to create a log file for SMTP? We won't be able to help without knowledge of the exact reasons of failure!
