Itamar,

>>Re.: Psion Computer journal - I think the owner/publisher was a Psion enthousiast like most of us and had good intentions. However, I think it grew above his head and he most probably underestimated the work involved. I can't tell you whether he still subscribes to this digest or not but if so he might read your email and do something about it. Personally I think one should be careful to publish negative information about others until you are very sure that it is correct. <<

I think you're being a bit hard here. I believe that anyone who has made a payment, received neither confirmation nor the product paid for, queried this, and still not heard anything after 4 weeks, is entitled to query the intentions/honesty of the person/company in question. There may well be a very good reason for the lack of feedback, but it is not reassuring to a customer. Maybe the guy is snowed under, as Chris suggested, but if he is unwilling/unable to respond in any way, then David is perfectly at liberty to ask others what their experiences have been. As far as I can tell, David has been extremely patient, and if Will Green doesn't like this, then he should consider fulfilling the obligations that go with taking people's money. If he is unable to do this, then perhaps he should consider preventing any new subscribers from signing up to his magazine.

Cheers, Ian.

As regards Palm, despite many misgivings and some truly horrible moments, I have persisted and am just moving from a Tungsten T5 to a Palm Treo 650. I have to say this little machine has been delightful so far. I have come to rely on the marvellous DateBk5 to the extent that when the Palm sync lets me down I really start to suffer. What other phone provides seamless sync to both Outlook on Windows and iCal on OS X?

Subject: E61 and 2GB cards

In answer to various questions:

The E61's screen is only marginally smaller in terms of pixels than the Psion Revo's and the keyboard is faster to (thumb) type on. And yes, it multitasks just as well as any other Psion/Symbian device (except UIQ, which.... err... doesn't properly).

Up til now, I've been recommending hard core Psion owners to go down the Nokia 9500 route, but I'm sorely tempted to switch people to the E61 instead.

There's also the (now much improved - see my AAS piece from last week) touch-screened Nokia 7710, which (with a Bluetooth keyboard) is as close as you'll ever get to a colour Psion communicator.....

Me - I use a Nokia N70 (plus keyboard) - having a small daughter, the near-TV quality video recording is such a handy extra 8-)

2GB cards - these aren't fully supported by the Nokia 9500, so don't bother getting one. Various applications get phased by it. Stick with 1GB.

Hi Axel,

this is a noteworthy death of a Psion. Think of "burying" it on the Psion cemetery http://www.larsfinster.de/psion/friedhof/index.htm
(the best one is the Revo in the electric lawnmower).

Reference is made to the mail in the The Digest V1 # 930 (3) : Axel Moberg <address truncated> wrote on 17 May 2006 19:19:50 (> ):

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the Nokia 9500 can use the Wap contact number to surf the web with it's Opera as my present mobile does using Opera Mini. (The reason being I have unlimited Wap on my contract but cannot change to GPRS without changing to a more expensive tariff). Or will Opera Mini work on the Nokia? It is very good and fast although it does miss some features of a full browser it is fine for me.

Many Thanks,

Jon Welford

Subject: Problem with mobile modem

Hi Itamar,

The mobile phone I'm using is an Alcatel 735 which works great as a modem once it does connect. The ISP I normally use is Ecosse but I get the same problem with Connect and Aardvaak. These are all straight dial in ISPs - nothing fancy. I have tried using the different tel numbers which they offer but the same problem occurs with all of them.

I get the impression that the log on process sometimes, well most of the time, somehow cuts short the User Access Verification
process and prevents the pop up window  appearing. After that the call just goes on until it times out. The details in the Etel log don't really help other than to show partial completion of the User Access Verification entry.

I have more success in gaining access to the net when my 5mx is set for me to enter the login details manually as opposed to them being completed automatically.

I'd be grateful of any help. By the way I even tried PLBeam but it made no difference. As I said earlier everything it's strange that the Alcatel 735 works perfectly with my 3 windoz machines.

Carl

Answer to: George Nash

Re.: Netbook standby battery - Most likely the battery is ok but it does not make full contact. Put a folded piece of paper or a small piece of cardboard on top of the battery and close the compartment. This will push down the battery on the contact and will probably solve your problem.

Hi People,

Shortly after reading in the last digest about people's various woes
regarding PCJ , I just happened to be browsing through the ITMS for a
podcast that I'd heard about, when I happened across the BRITISH MAC
podcast. Intrigued, as the author is somebody called 'Will Green', I
followed the link through to his website, in the hope of (dis-)
proving the coincidence.....

Hello, my name is Will...

It’s difficult to know what to put here! I’m a musician, piano
player. I play jazz mainly, but will play anything or anywhere that
pays!

I live in a small town called Ironbridge in Shropshire. Hobbies
include playing with my beautiful Macintosh of course, tinkering with
Psion PDAs, squash, walking the dog (pictured), camping and cycling.

If you’re ever in Ironbridge & fancy a pint, give us a shout!

Will's e-mail and snail-mail addresses can be found on the following
page:

I haven't attempted to contact him myself yet, as I am in the camp of
Chris Handley in that I hope that Issue 3 is imminent....

Hope this helps somebody in need.

Helo,

Maybe the backup battery hasn't discharged. On my S7, I often have a bad
contact, so de S7 thinks the battery is dead. But after removing and placing
it back, it is "full" again! Now, I don't use backup batteries for my S7,
because I haven't a second main battery to change them. I neglect the
"replace back up battery" messages.
