Subject: Re: The Psion Journal
I contacted Will Green via his Mac email address (see http:// web.mac.com/britishmac/iWeb/British%20Mac/Home.html) and asked him if
he had abandoned his Psion contacts. This is the reply he gave:
"No way, I love my Psion and continue my commitment to the Psion
Computer Journal.
I think my biggest failure is spreading myself to thinly. Although I
totally understand that subscribers to the PCJ will get hacked off
(to put it nicely) in the inconsistency of the publish of the
magazine. However I hope the time / content makes up for a small part
of it.
I think really all I'm trying to say is if subscribers have paid for
4 issues, then they will get 4 issues however long it takes!
I mean to keep the PCJ up until anybody still shows an interest."
I hope this helps
Andy.

Subject: Re: PsiWin Restore Query Re: The Digest V1 # 933 (6)
Many thanks, jAnO, for the good advice. It is relieving to hear that PsiWin backups are encrypted or made proprietary by the software.
I travel with a Mako and HP Jornada 720, an excellent tandem, and hope to
store a complete PsiWin backup on the Jornada, and then somehow transfer over
the files in the event of an unexpected Mako hard reset. Revo Plus/Mako do
not come with CF slots, so I'm still pondering the connections.
I suppose the easiest thing would be to zip each PsiWin-made directory of
the Mako, and then send the files from the J over to the Mako via serial cable.
Comms for Revo is finally available, but not in the ROM, so I imagine I'd
have to email Comms and nZip to the Mako, install them, then do the transfers.
This procedure would take several hours, but I can't think of another workaround.
Thanks again for your help,
Jake

Prar,
One or more times I have had to leave a backup running overnight as the time to complete indicated over 540 minutes, I think it was close to 9 1/2 hours!

Nowhere near.
While trying to get my Belkin Serial/USB converter to work, I got a time of just over 14 days!
Needless to say, I never used that Belkin device.

Subject: Nokia 9500
Hi,
Well my 9500 arrived yesterday and I am beginning the steep learning curve with a new machine - there are a few things that I hope other users can help me with:
Since it does not seem have voice dialling what use is the Bluetooth headset, except for receiving calls?
I cannot get opera mini to connect via Wap - it dials up and the connection is made but O mini does not get through. I can use my home broadband, I guess it is a setting but my K7ooi has no problem.
My 1 Gig MMC+ is causing no problems at present - thanks to Steve Lichfield's tips on issues with larger ones.
The buttons to use Opera mini on the 9500 are rather obscure is there a guide?
Now to drive around and find those 'free' wifi access points!
Cheers Jon Welford

I didn't mean to get into a competition, Trygve, LOL, but yes I've only a MC200-no workabout or HCs, yet.

I'll see if I can find it. I just need to dig out the cable for my own Geofox, then I'll start digging through catalogs. (I am the lucky owner of one of those put together by the usergroup after Geofox went under)
That would be great, Trygve.
BTW: anyone have an Osaris they're willing to part with?
Yes, I've one but it doesn't work reliably. I'll check it out tomorrow.
Anyone got an Erricsson? I use one in a scarlet Palmtec box (yes I know, but I am a mere female) to record botany surveys, I feel, with little evidence, that the hinge is more robust. It's been in regular use for nearly 5 years. It gets rough treatment, being slung in my bag with my books, lens, lunch, binoculars etc. It has never let me down (says she tempting fate) and is a great little machine. The scarlet box makes it highly visible in grass. It's not that I don't trust my 5MXs, but they're to precious and possibly fragile for this work.

Subject: Nokia 9500
Hi,
I seem to be having big problems connecting my 9500 to my o2 gsm account. I can do it via freeserve or my wifi but O2 gsm Wap refuses to play. I wanted to see an idiots guide to the settings which Nokia seem to have made rather obscure but all Google links to it are down and even O2 refuse to send me settings as the site won't accept my o2 phone number!
Control Panel > Connections > Internet Setup
New , yes
Next:
Call it O2 WAP (for example), Network ID = Internet, Internet Settings Type = GSM Data
Next->
Telephone Number: +447712927927
Password Prompt: No
User Name: o2wap
Password: password
Next->
Advanced->
On the Proxies tab:
Proxy Protocol: HTTP
Use Proxy Server: Yes
Proxy Server: 193.113.200.195
Port Number: 8080
No proxy for: 192.168.071.035
Data Call Tab:
Connection Type: Normal
Remote Modem Type: analog
Modem Speed: 9600
Other tab:
Allow Plain Text Login: Yes
Use PPP compression: Yes
Done
Finish
The connection says it is connected but no data is received.
I'd be most grateful for any tips
Cheers Jon Welford
