Vreader5 will read plain text, so the simple download from Project Gutenberg is perfectly readable. I use a CF card with a Ps7.

You can compress to .tcr format with a compress program TCREADER which is a DOS program, but these days it's hardly worth the bother as CF cards are so cheap.

Re.: Banking - This might sound stupid, but why don't you just continue
using your old(er) version of Quicken that did work ? We don't always
have to upgrade just for the sake of it, only do it when it improves the
program, not when it takes away from the functionality.

Re.: In-car bluetooth - I actually hate to have an earpiece in my ear
all the time, certainly when driving. My telephone is in a car stand and
is being charged at the same time. The sound is connected to the
speakers of the radio and I can speak and hear freely. I just personally
prefer it this way.

Re.: Bridge - What is P-Plus Bridge ?  Is it a good bridge game ?  I use
BridgePro for many years already.

Vreader5 does support the palm format, although it may have moved on a bit in the last few years. Otherwise stick to plain text and get a large CF card: I saw 2GB for £25 yesterday.

Cheers pour l'advice.

I tried to install the apps from the SIS files for a netPad, but PSIWin got the better of me a defaulted to French and rather rudely didn't even offer me an English option. I got round this in the end by putting my CF card back into a broken 5mx (jailbars!) and installing the English apps there. This worked out ok, but I don't have a resource file for the EPOC O/S so every time you do something like copy a file or open the config you get Francais. In the end I've deleted the English apps and am going to get by in school-boy french.
Thanks for the Keyboard remapper tip. I can now type numbers without struggling for the shift key. Is it normal to have the numbers on shift on an AZERTY keyboard? The AZERTY option on the netPad is the same, but some of the keys are in different locations again... (There's also the International Keyboard which seems to be mostly vowels!)

(PS spent the whole of today thinking the date was wrong: Mar 11 in the bottom right corner.)
