Subject: Backups and Banking
Hi Keith,
Re: Backups

Have you ever tried to do a restore to an empty CF?
Are all files still OK on the new CF after the restore?
I had always trouble with invalid filenames after copying severel folders and files do a "psion"-CF on my windows-PC.

Yes, I do no longer use Quicken, but only use ABP. Nothing else.
Saves me from paying for an "upgrade" of quicken each year as well.
If you do want to use Quicken, why not stop upgrading and use the last version which is capable of importing QIF?

Subject: Ref: French Psion
Hello PRAR,
If you want to have a choice for which language you want your SIS-file to install to, you go to Control Panel / Add remove / Preferences and choose a "preferred language"
that is very rare, say
Icelandic.
Whenever you install a multilanguage SIS-file, it will detect you want Icelandic, which it does not have.
It will then give you the choices it has and you can pick English (if
English is available). Of course, you *will* have an automated install of the Icelandic version of the SIS-file if this language is available.
"mar 11", nice one ! MDR (mort de rire or LOL in French).
Yours sincerely,

Subject: P-Plus Bridge
Dear Itamar
P-Plus is a commercial bridge program. I believe that it has been sold in a PC version as well as EPOC. It is said to be based on Q-Plus bridge software. As well as playing as a partner in random-dealt, single hands to win rubbers, you can play duplicate bridge, but it can take the Psion tens of minutes to play through the chosen number of hands before you can start in the open room. (I let this run at work, on mains power, and play the hands while commuting home). The program allows you to query any significant bids and will explain what they mean. A large number of bidding systems, or variants, can be selected, and one can select a different system for opponents than the one you choose for your own side.
I bought the program from Breva Software Ltd, Remmets House, Lord Street, Bury, BL9 0RD, Tel 0161 764 6800, e-mail<address truncated>
I have not checked whether they are still trading.

Re.: Bridge Pro and P-Plus Bridge
Is there any way to get one or both Bridge programs for my Psioncollection? I'm interested in any software for Org I and II, SIBO and Epoc.

Subject: Mobipocket reader
I don't think I've seen this posted to the Digest before, so for those who are using the Mobipocket Reader on the 5mx/MC218 (final version 4.8, I believe), Mobipocket have released the serial number to convert the standard reader to the Pro version. Go to Menu->Help->About->Register and type in CGHYCXYL. This gives you a more advanced search feature, and the option to rotate the text through 90 degrees (i.e. read it in portrait), and possibly other things too.
However, I also have a question. Does anyone know of a way of keeping two books open at once? Going into the library and back again is too slow when using a CF card! It would be very handy to be able to Ctrl+Space from one to another (using Macro5), but I can't work out a way of doing it. This may be a limit of Epoc itself. I also tried putting my books into Macro5 to open them as files, but either Macro5 or the Reader doesn't like this method.
Any ideas? Thanks,
Ed.

Subject: Looking for a new PDA
Hello everyone,
Though I've not posted for a long time, I've been reading the digest since 1997. Bought my first Ser.5 in October 1997, and have kept extracts of the Digests over the years in a Word file.
My S.5 still works [slowly] but my beloved 5mx was recently stolen (at a car-wash; left in the boot). Fortunately the scores of data and word files are in the PC and can be converted.
I now want a new PDA that has a keyboard or accessory keyboard at least as good as the S.5, on which I can type and download short reports. I don't need to use it as a phone or access e-mail. Any suggestions?
I'm also looking for a phone that's small enough to live in my trousers
pocket and has GSM 850 / 1800 / 1900. I'm thinking of a Nokia 6230b (tri-band) or 6131 (quad-band). I've dismissed the 9300 as much too big for just a
cell phone.
