Subject: DSLink & USB ADSL & 5mx

Helo,

I tried DSLink, found on www.pscience5.net (lost&found), to connect my 5mx to the internet using my PC's internet connection. It doesn't connect. The manual included in the ZIP-file sais "... Simply fire-up either Email or Web (or whatever else you might use) and click 'connect to the internet.' The connect box should appear on the screen of the Revo..."
Is this only true for revo's? Or has it something to do with the USB ADSL connection (instead of LAN or whatever)?
I configured the Psion exactly as discribed in the manual.

Any help is welcome!

Bas

Dear Giorgio,

I currently use the Siemens S75 successfully with my MC.
And I know the Sony Ericsson K700i works also well.

Best regards

Try setting the length of column to use for sorting to something more than 1 character! This is generally fixes sorting issues!

Answer to: Giorgio Subject: RE Which ?Modern? mobile Phone, connectable via Ir to 5mx (or MC218)  ??? >I want to upgrade the mobile ph. with a more “modern” one, that should STILL (!) do the above, connecting via Ir to the MC218, >but that could ALSO (!) have Bluetooth and a “large” colour display, so that I could use it (with the appropriate sw & GPS device) as a modern >satellite navigator. >I tried the MC218 with a Nokia 6260 and 6233 but NO WAY: the Ir connection did NOT work ! I warmly recommend using the 5mx or MC218 with the Sony Ericsson P900 or P910. This will allow you, not only to connect in *the same manner* as you did with your SH888, but also to connect with GPRS speed, usually by dialling *99#. I would also recommend that you install: - SmtpAuth in your MC218 which allows to send emails via SMTP protected email servers. - plBeam or CBeam in your MC218 which allows you to transfer files via Infrared back and forth to the P900. You can for instance maintain your contacts in Contacts app in the MC218, export them as a .vcf file, transfer the file over to the P900 and import this file into the P900 Contacts. The UIQ user interface of the P900/P910 has a lot of familarity with the Psion's Eikon user interface. It doesn't require a major rethink to operate the P900/P910. That's another important factor. To Peter,

I don't imagine exactly what you intend to do with Data.

I can say how I use PsiDat and Data. I use PsiDat for well-structured material, especially when I need to do some calculations or statistical work on it. At the opposite, I find Data great when I have to write memo fields : you never lose what you have just typed (for example after pressing unfortunately Esc), you can sort by date or other items, the search is extremly fast (on all memos !), it looks good on the screen (much better as PsiDat !), there are many graphical skills (bold, fonts, embedded
objects...)... So I use Date for all sorts of notes (meeting notes...), diaries (advancement of a project...), keeping emails (see "SaveMail"). Some drawbacks : no complex query is possible, difficulty to select the view you want to print.

Data can sort the file with three fields : those three fields could be three levels of an "outliner", only two levels if you want to sort also by date. And again three levels, if you use a file for one project only.

It is often mandatory to use extra-fields especially ment for sorting. For example, the yes/no fields. I use one like that to separate the cards between the already printed and the not yet printed.

<Is it my imagination,  or is sort routine used in Data a little flaky? I <get some weird results when I try to sort some columns in <ascending/descending order.
The odd results of sorting could be perhaps amended by setting up the relevant fields. You can choose the number of characters which are used for sorting.

<Finally, is there any way to export the contents of a Data file in a <decent looking format?
What do you call a decent looking format ? You can always open a Data file with PsiDat. But you can not sort it : Kevin Millican told me that he did not implement that feature for Data files because they sometimes get corrupted when you do it. But you can save the file to another one and then use every feature of PsiDat (printing and so on).

Thanks for the link to Eric Lindsay site.

Besides all that, for tasks, I prefer Agenda. I use symbols for the different projects (only one level though !). Lists are : phone call, write, email and so on. Tasks can appear near schedules. You can easily cross them out. Here also, you can have embedded objects....

To All
Re.: mBook problem - Is there no-one that can help with the "Service not
supported" I get when trying to use my Wifi card on the mBook ?

To : Giorgio
Re: Modern phone - I use the SE P910i and it works very well as you
describe. I can use my Psions with the modem function and have got
Route66 that works in all of Europe as a route planner on street level.
The screen is large enough to use with the route planner and it works
very well indeed.

Bye,
Itamar

Subject: Foreign outlets & plugs

I'm putting together a small list of the kinds of outlets/plugs used in foreign countries. Before a trip abroad, I can take a quick look at the list and know what kind of adapters/transformers I need to bring. I have only a few countries so far, so I'd welcome short descriptions of outlets & plugs used in countries I haven't listed.

I hope this summary can eventually benefit others on the digest as well.

Peter

Foreign oulets / plugs:

Austria:
Round recessed outlet. Two round female plugs at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock. 220 volt, 60 Hz.

France:
Round recessed outlet. Two round female plugs at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock, and one round male plug at 12 o'clock. 220 volt, 60 Hz.

Italy:
Flush outlet with three round female plugs at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, and one in between. 220 volt, 60 Hz.

Modems don't work via pay phones in Italy!

USA:
Flush outlet. Two flat female plugs at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock. 110 volt, 50 Hz
