I have the black intel MacBook. Why I should waste a quarter of the
disk's space on Windoughs is totally beyond me.
Of course, I would never have been able to back up the Nokia
9300/9500 to a Mac without Bluetooth. The cable link doesn't work.
Speaking of which, I wonder whether it is possible to link the new
Macs with their FrontRow connection to the Nokia via IRDA.

I used to get this problem a lot on my very old Nokia 7110. In that case it was simply due to the age of my phone - the SIM card was no-longer making good contacts with phone, so it had effectively been removed (or so the phone thinks).
The simple solution is to remove & reinsert the SIM card. You could also try cleaning the contacts of the SIM and/or phone.
However, as this problem only appeared after much use of my 7110, I suspect that it can only really be cured by a repair/replacement of the phone.

Cyril Catt,
I am surprised that no-one has yet told you about the "Java Psion Link" program: http://www.littlespikeyland.com/psionlink/
It is a partial PsiWin replacement for Apple Macs (and other OSes with some fiddling), so hopefully there is no need for you to boot into the security risk (and ugly design kludge) known as "Windows". ---

Subject: Agenda to iCal
Hi there all,
Has anyone worked out a method of converting a 5mx Agenda file to iCal?
Alternatively if there¹s a way of converting one to a Symbian-compatible
organiser then that would do just as well. I¹m able to synchronise my latest
phone (running Symbian) to iCal pretty easily.
While we¹re at it, has anyone done the Contacts and Data to OSX Address Book
conversion?
Cheers

Always keep a backcopy of your freshly installed (never launched) files: street & enroute .app
to copy them back in their right system folders when "reinstalling"

Answer to: Bruce A.Knox
Re.: Hotspots - It is not that easy to log onto hotspots with a Psion. Most hotspots nowadays need to be logged onto first with a webbrowser and some of them will only accept the latest versions of webbrowsers. You should try and find them with Opera. I tried it once at Hamburg airport in Germany but could not log on as it required Internet Explorer or similar.
Thanks for the support, my mBook went back for a repair on the repair and will hopefully come back all singing and working again.

Re. PsiWin after XP - What makes you think that Psiwin will not work with Windows Vista ? Secondly, why do you "have" to upgrade form XP to Vista ? I just upgraded myself to an ex demo PC from PC World with a P940 D processor and 2,048 Mb memory. It works sooooo fast that I don't think I will need an upgrade for a long time to come.

Re. Nokia 9500 Warrior Virus - Can't you leave Bluetooth off unless you need it ? AFAIK if Bluetooth is disabled no-one can use it besides yourself ?
To All:
Re. Psiwin - Just for general info, I just installed Psiwin again on a new PC with Windows XP Home Edition and it works first time "out of the box", as well as MochaPPP.

Subject: Keith's Sdict problem
Hi Folks,
Ulrich, Keith’s problem is that Sdict won’t recognise all of it’s own files on his Psion.
Sdict uses generic files whatever the platform. They don’t have a UID embedded in them so they need an .rdl file to be associated with the program if they’re to run it. If they’re loaded from within Sdict then this isn’t needed.
To try it I installed the app. on my 5mx along with the dictionary files Keith wants (and a couple of others). It worked perfectly. Within the app. the data files were all listed. Clicking on them did nothing, of course.
I then used plOpen to make an .rdl file associating the data files with the app.. That worked. Clicking on the file then opened the program with the file loaded.
But Keith’s problem (I could be wrong, Keith) seems to be that the program itself won’t recognise certain files he downloaded from the Sdict site.
I have come to the conclusion, which I’ve just now mentioned to Keith, that the files he downloaded from the Sdict site became corrupted on download. This would explain his problem completely.
Sdict seems to be a pretty good program, albeit a little simple for me - I’m used to the Larousse, COED, etc.. Even my Little Welsh Dictionary (Y Geiriadur Bach) is better for my purposes (but there are Sdict dictionaries of Welsh {Cymraeg}, Gaelic, Icelandic, Erse, etc.). There are also Sdict glossaries and - wait for it - an American to English dictionary!
Fortunately there aren’t many logophiles like me.
Happy days,
Phil.

Does anyone know if there is an up-to-date drug database available for the 5mx?

It does. I used Phil's files and they work. I've tried downloading the files several times from the site, http://sdict.com/en/, but they would never work - apparently always corrupted. Why corrupted for me but not others? I have no idea.
FWIT, the icon that the downloaded file have is Adobe Illustrator Spelling Dictionary, not the SDict icon. But let's not get into that. I sick and tired of the problems I've had with this app.
It's been a long hard struggle and if anyone likes to read horror stories, you can check out the entire mess at:

Subject: Re: OS for Malaybook
To Melvin Woody
>I liked the mBook so much that I ordered on for my stepson. But he let it run down - and upon recharging, he can't get beyond the "My Schoolbook" screen. So I sent him a chip with the OS version 1.05 (453) Release 158. I didn't revive the mBook. I visited him a week ago and followed all the instructions about taking out both batteries and umplugging from the main power - and nothing happened. We still only get "My Schoolbook". In light of David's comment, I now wonder if I gave him the wrong version of OS.IMG (though that's the version I have on my CF card and I think it worked once for me.) If only 1.05(281) will revive the mBook, how can I obtain a copy? Is there a way to transfer it from my own (working) mBook to the CF card in my D drive? >Or could there be some other explanation of why we can't get beyond the "My Schoolbook" screen.

In the past I had to do a hard reset with my Mbook on two different
occasions and also endured each time the dreaded ''My schoolbook''
syndrome as you experienced. My Mbook refused to reboot and only showed
this image after nothing occurred. Some of my experiences are posted on
the PDAStreet forum and on the Dutch PdaTotaal forum. After many, many
trials I succeeded in both cases to complete the whole rebooting
process. From this I learned, that :
(1) the OS image should be placed in the root of the CF card, preferably
with no or only a small number of files and folders. Ideally you should
use a dedicated small CF card with only the OS.img file. (2) The type and brand of the CF card may also influence the booting
process. I had tried many different brands and sizes before I was
successful.... (3) Please be aware that the CF card is positioned well in the CF-tray.
It has been reported by some people that this maybe one of the reasons
for a failure of the booting process. This is usually solved by putting
a thin strip of card between the tray end and the card so that it pushes
all the way in when the tray is closed. (4) It can take a while before the "My Schoolbook" screen changed into
the normal system view. It took in my case about 4 to 5 minutes..
As an alternative for the original Mbook image file, you can also use a
patched update of the Mbook image file released by pokepoc.
(* * MB_281UK.IMG - Version: 1.05 (281) - English (UK) - ASCII (Release
158) (for mBook))
*I found that for me it made me hardly worthwhile to use this update,
except that you can now cycle with Ctrl-Q between the C, D, E as well
the Z-drive now.
Good luck!

Subject: MX dropped, pls help
Hi!
Just dropped my just POS-repaired MX. I was lucky, the screen didn't break, but the keyboard is now hanging loose. The question is: does the MX have to be taken apart to put the keyboard back on it sliders, or is there a simple trick to snap the two lateral lugs (or whatchamacall them, inwards-oriented L-shaped things sliding on the edge of the metal plate underneath the keyboard). I'd guess if they sprang out they could be snapped back in, I wonder how come they did _not_ break... Is there a trick?
Thanks for any tip...
best,
