Subject: Visit in France

I'm leaving next week, 6 Sept, to do a bicycle trip in southern France. My route is, generally, Avignon-Toulouse-Perpignan. If any of you in that area are interested in getting together for a coffee and Psion talk, send me an e-mail asap with your phone number/address. If I'm in your area, I'll phone you a day or so ahead to see if we can meet.

Note: I don't do e-mail when traveling.

Hi all
In answer to the question regarding icons for Wifi on the 9500
plain W is wifi signal present. W in a box is connected to open network. and W in box with circle above is connected to secure network.

Message please insert sim card, if it is not a poor connection try a reset by removing battery.
I have a sim adaptor in my 9500 with a Company Vodaphone sim and a private Orange sim
It's thee type that you have to cut your sim cards, and then the two cards fit into the adaptor that is the size of a normal sim.
each time you switch the phone off then back on it switches network. have had it for over a year now without a problem, but recently had a problem, when a voice message was recieved on Voda network, I would get an error message "sim card rejected" I had to switcg off the phone and back on againd twice. 1st time goes to Orange the 2nd time back to Voda.  This was cured by a reset removing the battery.

With bluetooth. once an Item is paired with the 9500  you can then switch to unit to hidden. your earpiece will connect OK but no-one else will see you.
I  am on my 3rd Bluetooth earpeice with the 9500 the latest being a nokia HDW3 the Nokia is so much better auto connects if I go out of range, the other 2 I had to switch them off then on again if that happend. It also stays connected when indoors and 9500 is connected to my PC via bluetooth.

Has anyone with a 9500 tried any push email software with their Nokia's?  I am using ProfiMail with great success currently.

Great news about Owen :-)

Kind Regards
Ashley

>> Since my last Psion (5mx pro) quit working, I am to leave the Epoc
platform now… I have not found a satisfactory replacement for my Psion, but
I can get one of these Windows mobile pocket pc phone edition (wow what a
name) devices from my mobile phone operator pretty cheap. If there only was
a digest like this? <<

I have stopped using my dear little Psion(s) for years and I am still
lurking around.  I use the HTC Universal , also called I-mate Jasjar, XDA
Exec (O2), SPV M5000 (Orange) etc… and I am very happy with it.

Follow this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Universal and you’ll find
lots of help for this machine.  Hope this helps.

Interested?

Subject: other phones to pair with 5mx or netBook?

I am really going to have to breakdown and get a cell phone. I assume I have to get something from T-mobile or Cingular with a SIM card that I could later pop into a Nokia 9500. For now though, I just need a small phone that I can use with my 5mx or netBook for Internet access. MP3 + FM radio would be nice. Infrared a necessity obviously.

The 6230 sounds great but is not an option offered by either US GSM carrier.

does anyone know if a Nokia 6102i or a 6103 would work? or a Sony Ericcson Z252? Any thoughts would be appreciated.  --Chris

Subject: Project Management -Mike Woodward

Feb 03 I asked for help on how to manage a project. I received much help from the Digest.
Mike Woodward sent me a Psion Word document that was wonderful in explaining how to organize a project on your Psion and how to name your files so you could find them again. I continue to use much of what he told me. I'm now retired and have joined a computer group. I would like to explain to them Mike's naming and filing system, but his crystal clear explanation is lost
in a pile of backups in some dark corner of the computer room.
If Mike or anyone has this file could you email it to me?
Thank you, WoodyB

Answer to: Christian Roth
Re.: Good-bye - No thanks, we are heading towards the no. 1,000 digest
and have now surpassed the old up5-digest. It is quite an achievement
(if I may say so) run by 4 dedicated operators free of charge as a hobby
only.     As to your change, why don't you look into a Symbian machine ?
The P9xx is a good phone and PDA and although not a replacement for the
5MX it can do a lot of other things the 5MX could not (music, films,
etc). I still use it as my main diary, ocasionally check emails or write
them, and with for example a foldable keyboard these can be very useful
and in my humble opinion much better than the Windows machines.

To All:  I think it is perfectly ok to initiate contacts about swapping
EPOC / Symbian machines and other items via the digest as long as the
final negotiations are done by private emails.

Best regards,

Itamar
