I can only speek for the original netBook with software 1.05(457) build 158. I assume that the MBook comes with a similar version that supports the same network cards.

It's easy if you don't need encryption but impossible if you do. The
driver for the Cisco card (or the card itself) does not support the WEP
standard. If you need encryption, a Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11GP will do, as
well as the technically identical Orinoco Gold. The latter blocks the
stylus hole so you better keep a second stylus somewere outside the
machine. The Buffalo card has a flat antenna without this restriction.
Both have a small connector so that you can place an external antenna
on the outside of your boat.

Be aware that no known card or software supports the more elaborate WPA
encryption standard on the netBook/MBook.

Some public wireless networks are run in such a brain damaged way that
you can only connect with a recent Windows flavour. I can only hope,
the one you want to connect to ist less stubborn.

The standard dialogs have some preference settings that are controlled
by the programmer of the application: show ROM, show system folder,
etc.

It's up to the programmer to use the system preferences or set the
flags to some standard value. It looks to me that the implementors of
Word did it the latter way, hiding the system folder. This speeds up
the dialog but makes it less versatile for the user.

Hi all,

Itamar mentioned this phone on the last digest, and I also think it looks very interesting.

http://www.smartphones-show.com/ is a great resource when researching smartphones as
you can actually see them being demonstrated.

Mike Dyer
who still likes his Treo at the moment.

Hi Tom,
I did start with the Cisco card and had no success, I am sure some have, but I couldn't get it to work.  I do have a Buffalo Air Station 11bps PC card. WLI-PCM-L11GP.  It is a great card and the wifi has worked great on my home network.  I am having trouble now, probably more operator than hardware, getting it back up and running.  I had some adjustments to my router and my Laptop works great but I can't get my Netbook to work again with Wifi.  My router is a D-link and it works fine---normally---with my Buffalo card.

Thanks,
Bobby

You're quite right, of course, Paul. I've taken the 5mx apart partially before, but, as far as I recall, never to the point where this particular problem could be fixed. I didn't think of checking the instructions on your site.

Even so, the necessity of doing a hard reset and restore would have been a deterrent

Yes, I have one that works fine with my MBook and my home network. I've not come across any free hotspots to try it with.

I had great trouble getting it working at first. I had to hard-reset the MBook and restore the OS.img from the CF card; then it was fine .
