But Marcus is the system folder the correct place to keep Word documents?  I do not keep any 'data' in the system folder.

If I need, for example to edit 'User.dic' then I tap it's icon and it opens in Edit.  Tapping the Fax and Word template files open Word. These actions are not used very often and are kept safe under the system folder.

MyNotes is the only app that I've found that keeps its data files under the system file.

I guess that no-one answered, because there is no such program, AFAIK.  One would be very handy though.

I believe that the best you can do is use an empty WiFi name, and it may then connect to the first network it finds.

Re.: netbook won't boot - Sorry to hear about your problem. I am not sure who in the UK still services mBooks and netBooks. I do know that Pulster in Germany does do it and gives a good service. They will also be able to replace your netBook with either a new(ish) or a 2nd hand one.

POS Ltd do service Netbooks.  Quite expensive. 130GBP fixed price, I believe. Best to ring them first.

No, that is unlikely, and usually only happens in the 5mx, due to the bad design of it's cable.  The Netbook has a different problem:  The connector (for the cable) comes loose from the motherboard.  Some people have reported that it doesn't come loose noticably, but that the connections had become oxides (perhaps due to exposure to the air, because it came slightly loose) & so needs cleaning.

The end result is that you would have to partially dismantle the Netbook (not too much if you do it right) to get access to the screen connector below the Series7/Netbook logo, disconnect the connector (careful!), clean the contacts if possible (very careful!), and then put it securely back together again.  There were some picture-based guides how to do this.  Of course, you do this entirely at your own risk!  If it sounds too scary to do, then don't - get someone with an electronics background to do it instead.

N.B.  Psion tried to fix this problem several times, but only in the newest Netbooks.  When my Series 7 was in for repair, I was lucky enough that the second time it was "repaired", they put in the latest Netbook motherboard design (IIRC), which does seem to have fixed it the problem completely (touch wood).

Either the connector has become too loose, or the connections have become oxidised.

Subject: HTC TyTN

I have been a Psion/Symbian user for many years, (Psion series 3, 3a, 5, 5mx then a Nokia 9500) until recently when I moved to an Orange SPV M3100 (HTC TyTN rebranded).  Below are my thoughts of the good and bad points of the move.

The good:
Size and weight
Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi
Syncronisation with MS Outlook - although Activesync is a bit flakey
Massive amounts of third party software
Screen (touch screen with excellent clarity)
Not having to open the clamshell to get to information quickly
Can be used one handed to get information
USB connectivity - including charging when connected
2 megapixel camera - takes great shots
Keyboard - I couldn't have a device without a keyboard
MicroSD expansion card  (2gig) - although another change of format

The bad:
Stability - I have to soft reset the device regularly
Pocket Word and Excel - not as feature rich as Psion/Symbian
Keyboard - not a patch on the 5mx or even the 9500
Screen - it gets greasy when used as a phone, pressed to the cheek
Calendar - not as good as Agenda
Interface - although this is improving with familiarity
Unable to backup without a third party application
Not found a Digest equivalent for Windows Mobile 5

Overall I am please with the move but do miss the familiarity of the Symbian interface and stability of the OS. I would always consider moving back to Symbian if Nokia ever bring out an enhanced comunicator as I love the combined phone/PDA format.

If you need further feedback of have any questions let me know.

Regards,
Mark.

Mike, thank you very much for the link to the smartphone show. I will have a look and download episodes on my iPod 5G asap.

Hi Franco,

thanks, you're welcome !.

I still find my Treo so brilliant that I'm much more of a reader than a poster here these days.
I feel most people who criticise Palm OS have just taken it for granted.

Mike Dyer.

Answer to: Ian Colvin

Re.: Netbook screen dying? - I am not aware of a screencable problem with the netBooks / S7 series. Pulster in Germany service the S7 and n/m-Books, see their website www.pulster.de.

Answer to: Jon Welford

Re.: printing over network - We print at home over a wifi network but the problem is that you need to install the drivers of the printer used on the computer that gives the print command and that is not possible with a Psion unless you have EPOC drivers for your printer. Your best bet would be to use "print via pc" and a serial link or a direct infrared connection between the Psion and the printer.
