Hope that helps

Subject: P910 synching problem

DearAll,

I have a question about synching. I have Office XP installed on my laptop, but have never managed to get the P910 sync software to work with Outlook XP. As a result, I installed a bootleg copy of Outlook 2000. I then hit the problem that synching would not work, as Outlook was NOT set up as my default email program (I use Thunderbird); in typical Microsoft fashion, the only way to set Outlook as the default mail program was by doing this in....... Internet Explorer (how obvious is that!).

I now have another problem, which I have never had before, mainly as I never did any synching when I was a Psion user. I have set up the SE sync program to resolve all conflicts by copying items from the phone to Outlook. However, if I move an appointment from ie. Friday to Tuesday in my phone, and then sync, the Tuesday item gets copied to Outlook, but the Friday item also gets copied from Outlook back to my phone, which is exactly what I don't want. Is there any way to prevent this, ie. is there any way of setting up a one-way sync, to prevent items from EVER being copied to the phone from Outlook? Also, is there any way in Outlook to delete all items up to the current day, as there is in my P910 Agenda?

Cheers, Ian.

You are right to advocate Mozilla but I think you probably mean Mozilla Firefox. Thunderbird is the mail and news client that corresponds to MS Outlook Express.

I personally think that many of the issues regarding security of MS Windows (XP onwards) have been addressed but there have always been alternatives to Windows web and news clients and even the operating system itself.

Subject: Dead netbook battery?

Hi - I've just sold my Malay NetBook to someone on ebay.

It seems that during transit the battery connection has gone.  The person who won the item tells me that the netBook only works when it's plugged into the mains.  When I posted it, I was getting around 6 or 7 hours battery life, so I know that's not that problem.

(Also, under Battery properties in the System screen, the main battery life is described as 'good', so the netBook knows that there's a working battery in there.)

She's removed the battery and given the contacts a wipe, but I'm now out of ideas.

Do you have any ideas what might cause this behaviour? (Everything else seems to work OK.)

Cheers,

Richard

Hello Mike, I sync without (other) problems in my Macbook, running OS X 10.4.8, entries in iCal and Addresses with a Palm TE2. However, both synching via the usb port, or via Bluetooth, I loose the categories (work, personal, vacation, etc) that I have assigned both in iCal and in the Palm calendar on the receiving end. Categoris at least remain OK (thanks Heaven!) in the device in which they were entered. From the Mac to the Palm, entries are mapped by default to "unfiled". From the Palm to the Mac, iSync asked me in which category I want to put incoming entries from the Palm. But I can select only one for all kind of entries I have on the Palm. Any idea on how to preserve calendar categories, please? Thanks a lot, and apologies to everybody for posting on the Digest a question which is not Epoc (or at least Symbian) - related. Hi Franco,

gosh I'm feeling famous  :o)

I have forwarded your question to<address truncated> but minus your email address to preserve your privacy. It's well worth joining if you own a treo as there are a lot of experts there. I will post any reply here if the admins don't mind. If they do I will email it to you.

I sync my Treo 600 with a pc and the bundled Chapura Pocket Mirror, it's a wonderful program that keeps any custom categories intact with Outlook. It's always worked flawlessly though not any good to an Apple user admittedly.

Regards,
Mike Dyer.

Just out of interest, was there ever a version of SafePlace (from PALMTOP) that ran on the EPOC emulator and could read the same files as that on the Psion?

Hi Franco,

Mac OSX 10.4.8 does have full compatability using isync with E series - It is just that it does not know it!

This is because the E-series is not in its internal list of Nokia phones. You can put it in the list yourself with some careful copying and pasting (search either Isync forum in Apple Support forums or search macosxhints.com for detailed instructions) or go to www.novamedia.de/sync/index.html and buy and download the plug-in for e-series phones. I bought the novamedia plug-in and this works well and does cover all e-series.

Subject: Synching Nokia series 60 with Mac OS X

Hello everybody,
Following my inquiry about synching Nokia Series 60 smartphones (running Symbian 9.1 and Nokia S60 3rd edition) with Max OS X, which I posted on the Digest N° 1008, I found this link on the web:
http://en.isync-hilfe.de/plugin.html
Any experience with this plugin, please?
I am about to buy me a Nokia E60, but I still did not decide 100%, so I cannot test the plugin myself yet!
Kind regards,
