Subject: USB serial Link
Ian
The only way can get my PC to recognise the link is by waiting till PsiWin is trying to connect, then swithching the Psion off and on again [Fn-Esc, Fn-Esc]. I sometimes have to do it repeatedly, but it always works eventually!
I'd love to hear of a less haphazard way of doing it! Let me [us all] know how you get on.

Re.: Windows 3.1/ER5 Devices - Can't you use a higher version of Psiwin ?
Answer to: Jean Guillonneau
Re.: Commercial program - Could be an idea, I used it for similar purposes in the past. Is there however a maximum number of To-do lists one can create or not ? Of course you have to create each list by hand instead of having a database with the labels ready only for the data to be entered. I think a project for the quiet Christmas period ...

Subject: P910 synching problem,
Answer to: Ian Chapple
Re.: P910 synching problem - I am far from an expert of synchronising but my idea is to find out if there is a way to reset Outlook to delete all the contents of it's diary. Than you can empty it out before synchronising and than automatically there will be nothing to copy from Outlook back to your PC.

My second question is whether there is a way to print Agenda files, not as a list of to do's and appointments but as a daily or weekly style print out like Outlook does. I'm guessing (after having googled) that the response will be 'only by synching with Outlook', but I thought I might ask at least.

No, there are some means. At least one app can do it : I think it is called Agenda+, or something like that. It works with your Agenda files just like BusyView does (but there is no printing in BusyView).
I wrote a macro which prints some (missing) views of Agenda (a Gantt like task view, a week view - which I print regularly for the secretary at the office), but it's for my french 5 mx and "speaks" french and is also somewhat adapted to my way of planning things. But if someone wants to look at it or help improving it, he's wellcome !

Have you tried the emulator? Printing is available from the emulator, however seems to do nothing. You will be able to do screen dumps and read your file.
The emulator can be downloaded from

Subject: Cheap fast SanDisk CF Cards!
Found this today:
SanDisk Extreme III (20MB/s) 1GB card (£23.35):
http://www.onlinememory.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers
_id=21&products_id=170&zenid=90a3458d3bd65b6f0279627cb19dda6d
SanDisk Extreme III (20MB/s) 2GB card (£43.86):
http://www.onlinememory.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers
_id=21&products_id=171&zenid=90a3458d3bd65b6f0279627cb19dda6d
I have ordered the 2gb card and will run diskbench on it when I get it and
compare with my current SanDisk Ultra II 1GB! Once I have the results I
will update you all. Anyway, who could resist the 1GB version for only
£23.35!

David

There is an absolutely fantastic and essential program that allows you to do just that and more (including annotated year planner) - and in colour! It's called PC Agenda by Chris Hartley. Download it from here:
http://www.maison.demon.co.uk/
However, before you get too excited, I see that you have "no (working) usb-serial dongle" and that you were "hoping to simply transfer the agenda file to the pc using a cf card and open it ..." No can do - the program will not import files from a CF card, only from the Psion itself so a working version of PsiWin is essential. But the program is so good that, if that's what you need I would say it's worth investing in a USB-serial cable for that alone.
Best wishes

Subject: plBeam problem
I have been running plBeam for some time now and have come to rely on it. However, during a little experiment today, I moved the CF in D (with the plBeam files and driver on it) to the E drive. I then moved it back again. Now when I start it I get the message: "Time limit in Demo version has been reached".
I have tried soft reset, uninstall and reinstall, all without success. Can anyone help?
I can't remember, but I though the software was freeware, or perhaps I registered it before and have lost the registration. I am using version 1.10F, I know there is a version 1.30 which I will probably updrade to if I can solve the problem with this version.

Subject: Database for Nokia E61
Hello all
I'm considering a switch from 5MX + SPV C500 to Nokia E61: is there any database software under Series 60 3rd edition that could replace (and improve...) Data on 5MX ?
Thanks for any hints.

am I correct that there is no way to use a netBook to access an IMAP email account which requires Secure Socket Layer to connect?

Subject: Another screen cable bites the dust
I'm spitting nails. My 5mx's screen cable has failed without warning, eight months after I bought the machine on eBay. Usual debate with myself: send it for a PsionFlexi repair or make the jump to some smartphone successor? Reading the pros and cons of the latter course, I feel I'd rather renew the 5mx: the three-box solution - 5mx, MalayBook and Nokia phone - has been working fine for me till now.
