Subject: Re: Anniversary
I started with a 3a about 10 years ago, then moved to a 3c and then a 3mx (mainly because it compiled OPL programs much quicker). In the meantime I'd convinced my wife that a 7 would be a great laptop, which it was, apart from the poor Internet experience. I then bought a 5mx, not because I was unhappy with my 3mx, but because Psion had just announced that they were dropping out of the PDA market, and I wanted to get a 5mx before they became impossible to find; I thought the 5mx was great, apart from the dreadful screen contrast. I eventually replaced my 7 with a netbook (as we installed a WiFi network at home), and have since moved to a Sony Vaio laptop. My 5mx has also since been replaced by a SE P910i (mainly as a result of my old mobile phone dying); I like the P910 a lot, and I definitely appreciate having my Agenda and Contacts with me at all times, but I do miss a "real" keyboard...
My netbook is still used for one or two tasks, and if I want to quickly check if I have any email, it is sooooo much quicker than waiting for my laptop to emerge from hibernation...
Cheers, Ian.

Subject: change p910i to xda,
Answer to: William Fuggle
Re.: change p910i to xda - Thanks for the ideas. I don't use the DATA much as I find a laptop and PC easier for that, only use it occasionally while traveling. O2 however gave me a very good deal with international calls from aborad, basically 80% discount to 17p per minute outgoing and incoming calls in Europe and a cheaper line rental with more free minutes and txt messages. As to the xDa, I just want to try it out for myself. I am bsically a bit p.ssed off that with every change with Symbian I have to invest in new programs for a new version again. I would like to try once the mainstream software system and see how it works and functions and whether it sufficdes for my requirements or not. There is ana wful lot of extra software around as well. If I don't like it I'll put the SIM card in my P910i and continue to use that one, can always sell the xda on eBay ... .

Subject: Nokia 9500 calendar and travelingbigfoot)
Hi all,
I recently visited the US with autoupdate on and wisely I backed up all before I left. I sync my diary with Notes v6.0 and all seemed OK.
On my return, the tiem did not flip back. Tried a manual change - bad idea. I had not spotted the home city change.
However what was worse was all my anniversaries moved a day earlier, lost their start dates. I also then got events +5 hours and -5 hours all through my diary.
Restored the backup, cleaned out Notes and resynced. Damn thing happened again.
Restored the backup again. Did a one way (to Notes) sync. Still sorting out diskspace on my PC to let me backup the calendar again, just in case, before we try and let Notes add new entries.
All in all a nightmare experience, which is probably not onve yet.
So:
1) Backup before traveling.
2) Maybe also save standalone copies of contacts and calendar.
3) If you switch timezones, make sure the home city switches back, if you use autoupdate.
4) Be very care when you resync things either away or at home.
I think some of the problems were Notes and timezones, but goodness am I thankful for my backup!

Yours John.

Subject: When did you start using your first Psion?
Hi from a loooong time lurker.
I started with my first Psion around 1985 when I won a Psion II model CM. Since then I've been through a II XP, Series 3, 3a, 3c (broken hinge but still used to collect weather data automatically every 15 minutes from my wireless weather station), 3mx ( still used with Psion Money for my bank accounts), 5, 5mx, 7, and 7book. Also used SE P900 and P910.
Main machines now are a Panasonic Toughbook CF-18, which is a great Serries 7/Netbook replacement with its touchscreen and 7 hour battery life, and iMate SP5m due to its superb Outlook synchronisation, but I still count myself as a Psion user due to the 3c and 3mx still in use.

Subject: Re: plBeam problem
Recently I raised a question on plBeam unregistering itself, well, I e-mailed Psiloc and got the following response:
Unfortunately Psion is not supported, please visit this site
https://www.drmcommonsolutions.com/Psion/Default.aspx
The link took me to a site that allows you to input your machine's UID and it then provides the codes for all of the EPOC products! You can also download the install files from this site, in effect they are now freeware.
To Martin G,
Perhaps this is something you could add to your site (in case they disappear!) including the registration code generation.
Regards
David

>There is an absolutely fantastic and essential program that allows you to do just that and more (including annotated year planner) - and in colour! It's called PC Agenda by Chris Hartley.
The program is very clever indeed. But as far as I am concerned I can't use it. The program stops very rapidly and a box "Cannot create an entry" pops up. I must say my Agenda file is quite complex.

Subject: RE: Contact manager for E61
Stéphane; it depends on what you want from such a product. There is java app called My Customer which claims to be compatible with E61 and is "comprehensive customer management software". I haven't tried it and it's $7.99 with no trial available. Another java app is Contacts Manager $9.99, no trial. Both can be found on www.allaboutsymbian.com, software and click on E61.

Subject: Navigate
Hi,
Does anyone know if it is still possible to get the Java version of Navigate originally written for the Psion by Steve Denham of Wizworld Services?

Subject: CF data security
Just got hold of a new (to me anyway!) netbook. Fitted the huge new CF and started filling it up with this and that.
As I copied yet more stuff (personal data) it occurred to me that anyone with a CF reader who got hold of my NB for ten minutes could do exactly the same in reverse, and unhindered by any NB password. So my question is this : what does everyone else use to protect their CF data?
Anyone use , say, SecureDrive ( http://www.symbianwave.com/product.php?id=sd_epoc ). Is there maybe a secure (hardware) CF for psions? I guess everybody uses something..don't they?
Cheers
David Ferguson
