Yea.

More people have moved away from their old machines, and the archived digests already cover most problems.

Rob, a 'lurker'

> Dear All,

> With 26 answers received the "score" is 22 in favour of making changes and 4 against. Some people answered they would like to discuss only Symbian matters. Please note that over a year ago it was already decided to widen the scope of the digest to include all Symbian machines so if you have any questions about ANY Symbian phone or machine, don't hesitate to post them on the digest !!
> With over 700 subscribers 29 answers is only 4% and we would like to receive more answers in order to make a decision based on a larger percentage to avoid a situation where a silent majority is against a decision but did not cast their vote ... and thanks a lot to those who already answered.

Answer to: Alan Morris

Re.: Getting there ? - Oh, I have no illusions or false hopes. Psion left the market not to return. Besides, the market of PDA's will in my humble opinion continue to shrink with the improving smartphones with thumbboards on the one side and the smaller and smaller notebooks on the other side.

Answer to: Mike Dyer & Fergus Flanagan

Re.: Treo 650 - Well, so why is the Treo 650 so amazing in comparison to the Qtek and our Psions ?

Well I have various old PSion 5MX and a 5, plus a 3c and bits I ought to sell. Having given my Nokia a Christmas e Eve bath (not a good idea, but carefully dried out is all OK), I read the digest with varying interest depending on content.

However the paper publication to read is Palmtop User see website www.palmtop.co.uk - many of the old Psion fol (who also conribute to this digest at times) are involved with it. The mindset certainly reflects the search for a good, usable product with the qualities that Psion had, and not just all smoke and mirrors like so many of the other offerings today.

Happy new Year to all the Digest readers.

Yours John.

Does anyone have experience using the S7 as a meeting recorder.  Can a 1 hour meeting be recorded. What setting have you used. What format is the recording, Can it played back by .wma, .wav, mp3, etc. , or does a special audio converter be needed.  Any information  will be appreciated.

With the slow demise of Psion, I have finally been able to obtain an affordable s7 to go with my Revo.  I would perhaps ask that with every issue perhaps 2-4 replies from years past be included, to refresh/give ideas for additional usage.   In addition, perhaps a Psion barter/trade section/group for those seeking to replace/sell their no longer used equipment.

Keep up the great work
Daniel

I loaded Backup Buddy onto my Tungstem C a while back and it caused some keypad problems on the Tungsten so I dumped it.

I tried to reset the BB for my wife to use (she inherited my Palms) and the program<address truncated> access but the key pad problem has returned.

A while back I read about an English backup system in Palmtop Magazine but have lost the issue.  Anyone able to identify the English Palm backup program.
It was around 10 dollars as I recall.

I am a "long term" Psion/Symbian user, starting with a 512mb S3a around 1993 and migtrating through a 2mb S3a to an S3c to a pre-production ex test S5 - I worked for Psion for a year's industrial attachment - to a 16mb 5mx to a S7.  Towards the end of this saga I had a Casio and a Toshiba PPC and a P900.  I didn't like the PPC software other than that is was more colourful than Psion software!  I finally end up with 2 Netbooks, 2 5mxs for travelling, 2 Revo Pluses for my wife and 2 SE P910is.  One of each is a backup spare!

The Netbook is my main data inputter, used most often and for both work and personal matters.  It is backed up and synched to my WinXP computer.  My P910 is then synched to the computer to get the same info and is carried as my main phone and immediate giver of knowledge when away from the Netbook.
The 5mx is used purely when I am away from home for more than a week and has most of the relevant files from the Netbook copied across before leaving.
It is used because it is smaller, more robust and has a better battery life - also easier to get new batteries - than the Netbook.

I have read that some people has sync issues with both Psion and P9xx devices, stopping them from staying with the devices.  I have found limited issues with synching and with backing up.  All can be overcome with a little patience - however I understand not everyone wishes to need to have patience with a new device.  The P910 is stil the best device I have found for its size - especially the screen - I removed the tacky plastic keyboard!

Finally, I come to the future.  The only way for us to know what is going to be a best replacement for our current devices - if this ever happens - is to broaden the digest to include other technologies which may temp us.  My thoughts therefore are do it!

Subject: Question - report

Dear subscribers.

We have now received 65 replies which is just over 9% of the subscribers. From these 12 said no which is 18.5% and the others said yes to expanding the subject matter of the digest. Some of the further remarks that you all made :

Name :  Several people said they would prefer to keep the name just "The Digest" while others indicated a preference for "The Handheld Digest".

Scope : Some were afraid that an expanded Digest would discuss only smartphones and no PDA's. this is certainly not the idea. Several people wrote they were reluctant to make a change but understood that without change the Digest will slowly fade away due to lack of subjects to be discussed.

Format : Some adviced us to move to a Yahoo or Google type format to make it easier to run the digest, others prefered the current format (to use DigHandler). Yet again others adviced us to split the Digest into two, one for EPOC and one for Symbian and others.

We will not take any hasty decisions and if you did not yet send in your opinion and would like to do so there is still plenty of time, so keep them coming !

Best regards,

Itamar Engelsman
