Hiya

once again I'm weeks behind in my digestation...

I've just become the owner of an SE M600i. Does anybody have any tips to share? Like what format videos does the media player play (not WMV on mine). And how can I beam my calendar from a MC218 to it?

Find your Outlook *.pst file in WinXP (probably somewhere in 'Documents and Settings' and DELETE it (or if you fear that's too drastic, rename it with a spoof extension)) then run PsiWin.  Ignore any Outlook warning messages about not being able to find the .pst file.  This will rewrite your Outlook file taking clean info from your 5mx.  Subsequent syncs should then be OK. Best to use the 5mx as the 'master', i.e. use it for new entries, amendments etc. rather than Outlook.  If the problem recurs, just repeat the process.

Subject: Synchronising Agenda & Outlook (Office 2003)

Hi,

I find it somewhat ironic and risible that during the current debate about the future of the Digest quite a few contributors have said that the content has become boring and/or there is little posted on Psion matters to be able to assist others with.

I posted a message (copy below) on THREE separate occasions (4th and 28th November and 11th December) on the subject of synching their Psions' Agenda with Outlook on their PC/laptop. Despite reading in numerous Digests during this period and since, of the amount of people who say they successfully do this, it was particularly disappointing not to get a SINGLE reply.

Therefore, I'd like to make one last appeal for help from other Digestees on this subject please.

"Does anyone have any tips/ideas/suggestions of how best to synchronise Agenda/5mx with Outlook/Office 2003-WinXP so I avoid all those duplicated
and inaccurate entries that I got the last time I tried this??"

Many thanks,

Gary Jenkinson

I'm not sure if that answer was intended just for me, or also for anyone else who might be thinking of leaving, but I did not intend to blame the Digest for my lack of interest.  It's really a combination of things:

1. I haven't been involved in the Psion scene for some time, so I don't really have anything to say about Psions.  (Although I *may* eventually get back into Psion programming & related stuff.)

2. But for various reasons, neither have I become involved in the Symbian scene (beyond that OPL compatibility layer I devised some time ago), despite having replaced my Revo with a Nokia 9500.  (FWIW, I still use my Netbook)

3. My current set-up (9500+Netbook) works quite nicely for my modest needs, while none of the newer devices excites or interests me at all:  I want a proper OS (e.g. S80 not S60) with a decent keyboard (and a touch screen would be nice).  If I wanted to rant, then I'd repeat the mantra of many a Psion fan - nobody seems interested in producing a product that we want to buy (even Nokia appear to be quietly letting go of S80, the closest thing to EPOC).  This is probably the biggest reason why the Digest doesn't really interest me now - it's certainly not your fault, and neither is it one you can really do anything about.

The device to most interest me is the new Panasonic Toughbook CF-T5.  It's a laptop with a touchscreen, not much bigger or heavier than a Netbook, which has a 7 to 14 hour battery life.  It's a relatively expensive laptop, and not as ruggedised as previous Toughbooks, but it's far *cheaper* than previous Toughbooks, and is probably still more rugged than a Netbook (e.g. you can stand on it closed without breaking the screen, or pour a cup of coffee on the keyboard, should you like doing that sort of thing!).

Regards,
Chris Handley

P.S.  I was rather disappointed that even TomTom appear to have dropped support for both the 9500 & 9300 (along with a whole swathe of other devices that they *claim* are not powerful enough).

Unfortunately not. Apple have also just announced that only Apple will be allowed to write software for the iPhone. Which is just one of many things that kills the iPhone as a possible upgrade for me.

Answer to: Gary Jenkinson

Re.: Synchronising Agenda & Outlook - I am far from an expert in this field and I for the same reason never bothered with synchronising. From my trials and errors I remember that it works a lot better if you synchronise one way only. Keep your agenda either on the 5MX or Outlook and copy only to the other one.  In this light, it is a pleasure to work with Windows mobile as it synchronises without any problems whatsoever.

Re. Future of digest - Thank you all for your opinions, ideas and suggestions. Please do not expect any immediate changes, I will be on a business trip and than on a holiday of 1 week so we will not discuss anything before the end of January. In the meantime it will be "business as usual".

Best regards,
