Re.: Smartphones - i have been with Symbian phones for some time and abt. half a year ago switched to the Qtek 9100 running WM5. It holds the calls well and has most of what you want but I am not sure you can push the emails to it like with Blackberry. The disadvantage of Blackberry is, AFAIK, that it runs it's own OS and therefor is not very flexible and not much third party software available. I added to my Qtek several programs, some freeware others shareware or commercial, to make it more user friendly. With Wifi I can connect at home wherever I want and check emails or surf the net (which I hardly do). I decided to switch from Symbian as with every new version all the old software does not run anymore and I got fed up with that. With this phone I run some programs that are from 2002. It does need soft resets more often than the Symbian ones, but that is mainly when you make changes to settings or install new programs. And anyhow, the automatic back-up program does a soft reset each morning at abt. 4.10 am after finishing the back-up. If you buy a large enough disk (these are very cheap nowadays) you can store mosic on it and the quality is decent to good. I have smartmovie to watch movies (short flights) which I could transfer from my Symbian phone as the code is for the converter on the PC and the program on the phone just works. If you want, I can give you a list of all the programs I added. Most recent I added Agendus to get a better diary program. If you want Symbian you can loko at the Nokia E90, recently being discussed in the digest.

Re.: Waterproof 9500? - Good to hear that, but do I understand correctly you use a Nokia 9500 and don't back it up frequently ? I can only advise all smartphone and other PDA and/or phone combinations to back up your machine very regularly. You never know when it happens, but Murphy's law says it will happen at the lease expected and most unwanted of times. Than don't just back it up to a disk on the phone but also to a PC or other computer, so you will not be lost if you loose your phone .... !!

Re.: HTC S710 - Sure, it is smaller, but so is the screen (15%, 2.4" against 2.8"). in comparison with my Qtek it is 8 mm shorter 8 mm thinner and 6 mm lower (the HTC TyTN is another 3 mm longer than the Qtek). it is something but I don't think it is that much of a difference. The main difference is the physical keys on the front which are important for frequent phone users.

Re.: Chris's 9500 rant - Just out of interest, why were you not happy with the Qtek 9100 ?

Assuming that the XDA Exec runs WM5 (like my MDA Vario), nothing up until Tom Tom Navigator 5.2 will work on this (as I sadly discovered for myself).

Well, if we're really going to talk about that kind of thing, check out Agenda One (www.developerone.com). Although it's new s/w, I like it a lot because it's designed specially for WM5 so you can do everything from the soft keys.

Subject: multiple ToDo categories

>has anyone figured out how to assign an item in tasks to multiple lists?
There are not many solutions.
With lists and symbols, you can already do a lot. For example : I assign lists to actions (telephone, mail, write, meetings and so on) and symbols to projects (real projects or only areas of my activity). It is generally sufficient (at least for me). I think sometimes I'm lacking a tree of the different projects and sub-projects, but some other times I think it would be waste of time and I don't need really to be that precise.
Of course, you can add other categories in the text of the item, for example between [] or just like that. Look at DCP and all Sebban's softs : you can have with them lists, symbols AND categories (text between brackets, but it is automatized).

Subject: WIFI on netBook & O2 XDA Exec,
Answer to: Lewis Hartman
Re.: WIFI on netBook & O2 XDA Exec - A lot of questions, I'll try and answer what I can.
- When I insert my Cisco wifi card in my netBook the activity light immediately switches on, without doing anything else or activating any program. If your's does not it might well be that your card is not compatible as not all Wifi cards are compatible. Search the old digests for further details.
- With my card I did not have to enter any settings, it just worked.
- It might be that your wireless network is protected and that you have to ask the person who et it up to add your Psion to the network.
- There are plenty of phone shops in the UK that will remove a lock for a few pounds. I never did it myself.
- i use tomtom navigator 5 on my Qtek 9100 which is a WM5 phone and it works very well. Maybe try and close all programs to free as much memory as possible as it does need a lot of memory. Also check on the TomTom website if your phone is compatible with the version you are trying out.

Subject: Sandisk 512 MB, Emulator versus Netbook,
Answer to: Franco
Re.: Sandisk 512 MB - When formatting a CF card for use on a Psion it is best to format it on the Psion and not on a PC or other device.
Answer to: Jean Guillonneau
Re.: Emulator versus Netbook - But the main advantage of the Psions over a PC is the immediate switch on and portability. What is the use of the emulator on a PC ? Besides the diary program I don't see much use for it. Yes, we would all like to continue with Psions but in the end the world evolves and I would like to look ahead and use what is available today and tomorrow and not what was available years ago. But, I still use my netBook as it serves a function due to portabillity, immediate switch on, quick checking of mail without switching on procedures, running the digest, abp5 and Money.

Subject: multiple ToDo categories,
Answer to: ashoni
Re.: multiple ToDo categories - I think the difference is - judging from my WM5 phone - that in PPC the todo's are one list which has several categories and accordingly you can assign several categories to one item. In EPOC you can create several To-do lists but each list is unique and canonly have it's own tasks. However, it is easy enough to use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy an entry to another list and have it appear on two or more lists. I don't think there is another solution.

Subject: smallbase
I really love the design of smallbase, very much like psion data but
I had problems with unexpected crashes, and I just found out I've been using an unreg.version
Can I get a reg code for smallbase/netbook version?
Has anyone had any problems with the reg.version of smallbase?
Does one exsists - an upgrade to Palmtop's Expense Manager, all I have is the origional disk an I know they ussually have upgraded their programs.
