Steve,

>>This has probably been covered many, many times before, so I apologise in advance.

In my keenness (or stupidity) I decided I would upgrade all the Flash Memory cards on my various PDA's and this of course included the 5mx and netBook !

....

Anyway, I ordered a SanDisk 512MB for my 5mx and two SanDisk 1GB for my netBook (one is for for a PCMCIA adaptor).
The 5mx (16MB) I have, by the way, is one of, if not THE very last brand new ones sold (from Clove).

Never thought anything more of it until today, when I tried to install a game onto the 5mx. It didn't even see the 512MB card ... so I went
down to 256MB and 128MB (both SanDisk's too), but it kept saying "Card Not Present" (wouldn't format or name). I tried Viking and PQI cards too of those capacities but still nothing. In the end I put in a 64MB PQI card, and bingo, it was OK !

Anyway, my question is : "Is the limitation of CompactFlash cards on the 5mx 64MB ?"
Or am I missing something ?<<

I'm not sure what the absolute limit is, but I'm certain that it is higher than 64MB (I have a 256MB CF in my netbook). One possibility is that your CF cards are formatted in a way which your Psion can not cope with; try re-formatting one of your unrecognised cards in a card reader in FAT16 format, and see if it is then recognised...

I hope this helps, Ian.

 For Steve Denney

My 5mx runs very happily with a 256mb SanDisk and my Netbook is happy with a 1gb microdrive (not compact).
Sorry, don't know how to solve your problem, but from my experience it seems that there should be a solution!

Kind regards
Philip Carlisle

You're missing something. :-)

I'm happily using a.. opens bottom of Psion 5mx.. A Viking 256Mb CF in
my 5mx and have been for quite a few years now. Full of tomeraider
files, databases, apps I hardly _ever_ use.. ;-)

Hope this helps,

Kev

Hope that helps

I'm using an Integral 6.0MB/s 40x 1GB in my MC218 so it's not the size which is the problem. Try reformatting the cards in a digital camera or card reader and see if that makes them see-able by the Psion.

Somebody posted about using a formatter to partition a really large (8 GB?) card as the Psion OS has a 4GB limitation on addressable memory, but I never followed it up.

There is a 256MB SimpleTech, I believe it's a Toshiba card, into my 5MX.
That's a fast card for the 5MX, I have also a Sandisk Ultra II 512MB card for my MBook, and I put that card into the 5MX. Oke it works, but the 5MX slows down.
I don't like that card for the 5MX.

*  I haven't got round to the netBook as yet, but am

The Sandisk Ultra II 512MB is oke for the MBook
In my netBook I have a Sandisk Ultra II 1GB and a Kingston 1GB card and they works fine there, but the Transcend 80x 1GB is a better card for the netBook. The Transcend card is much faster.

To: Steve,

The only limitation is the 2GB limit of fat16, which is the format all
Psions require, however, I have heard of using partitioned CF cards.  I
personally use a 2GM Sandisk Extreme III in my netBook without any problems.
I did once have a problem with a non SanDisk card, since then I have ensured
I only get genuine SanDisk and I have had no problem.  I have used a 512MB
in my 5MX, never tried the 2GB one, if it works in the netBook, it should
work on the 5MX though.

David

NO!!

On 21 June 2006, I was delighted to tell The Digest that:

I just bought a Sandisk 2Gb Extreme III CompactFlash Card for my camera. Some of you may be interested to learn that it works in my Psion 5mx, my partner's Ericsson MC218 and my Psion 7Book.  Personally, I don't (yet) have a need for that amount of storage on the Psion but it might be useful knowledge to someone.  It shows as 1.9G on the series 5 and 1,943M on the s7.  Imagine backing that one up over PsiWin!

>Hello, I would like to get help in order to know if there is any software that I can use in a Ericsson MC218 to read PDF files.<

You need Pdf or Pdf+ from mBrain Software -
http://www.mbrainsoftware.com/Psion/Pdf/Pdf.htm
In April 2006 I bought a licensed version of Pdf+ and PdfPrinter at a package price direct from Sander van der Wal and had no problem doing so. You can contact him from the "Contact mBrain Software" link in the left margin of that page.

You should note that the program is designed for versions of PDF files from 1.4 and older (i.e. created with Acrobat 4 and earlier).  However, it usually opens files much newer than that, after complaining first.  Overall, it remains one of my most used programs on the Psion and gets 5 out of 5 Psions from me!

Best wishes
Austin

Subject: Oops MBook dead

My spare MBook got away from me.  I just checked to see if the battery was low (it takes forever when not in use).  It was not low, it was dead.

I plugged it into the mains and turned it on and see the My School Book/ One-Ed screen.

Took out the 30 MB flash card I downloaded and put it in the left drive slot.
It has a file downloaded from the Psion Teklogix website called:

NB-453US,IMG

Nothing.  When turned on I get the basic screen (My School Book).

The OS file is in the root.

What can I try now???

TIA

Subject: Synchronise with other agendas flag set wrong

I want to synchronise my Series 5 Agenda with Outlook but discover that
for the past 12 years, the "synchronise with other agendas" box has been
unticked (in tools/entry preferences) and every day entry has a little
cross next to it. So most entries do not copy over to the pc. Is there
any way to overcome this other than editing each entry by hand? Even a
macro which automated the keystrokes would help.

Subject: Nokia 9500 firmware v6.27 now in Britain

Hi

For British 9500 users, I thought I should let you know that it is now possible to update the firmware of your 9500 to the latest version (v6.27), unlike a few months ago.

I just had this done for me (took about 10 minutes!) by Communicade CNSp in Huntingdon (Cambridgeshire).  As they are an authorised Nokia service centre, they did it for free as it was within warrenty.  Their full contact details are:

Tel: 01480 431431
Addr: Kingfisher Way, Hinchingbrook Business park, Huntingdon, Cambs., PE29 6FN. (I also noted their lattitude & longitude, if that would help anyone....)

I assume that other Nokia service centres will also have firmware v6.27, but a smaller outfit I rang did not, so try phoning several places near to you (which Nokia's web site can suggest with a little digging...).

BAD NEWS:  I was told that getting cut-off in the middle of calls is probably a sign that the aerial connection is loose, so I may take it back for repair under warrenty, rather than pay the 30+ quid needed to repair it.
