Many thanks, Itamar.  I think I'd better download a new version of the OS - since the ones on the CF card don't seem to work for either my Malaybook or my stepson's.  Can you remind me whence to download it?
The Series 5 still won't admit there's a backup battery present despite a folded paper or cardboard.  But I'll fiddle some more when I get a chance.  And I'll try to figure out just whether my serial port is COM 1.  My desktop is in the shop, so I'm trying to connect with my laptop, whose settings are probably not the same.  I've set the Mako at 57,600. ( Meanwhile, the Revo that  I thought had  gone dead has sprung back  to life - although all the data  have disappeared and it opens the agenda in 1999.  Oddly enough, the same thing happened to a Mako that I had set aside.  I had a label on it saying it still seemed to charge,
but the screen stayed blank, which was the same problem with the Revo.
But when I put it on the cradle, it sprang to life, registered as already 95% charged - but all the old data had been wiped.  In the case of the Revo, I kept putting it in the cradle in hopes of preserving the data until I cold steal a battery from a machine with a bad screen.  The red light would go on - then eventually switch off.  Yet the screen stayed blank.  But when I did the same yesterday, it eventually beeped and the screen came to life.  I'm not sure what happened in either
case.  Perhaps I let each get fully discharged.  But I'm no complaining -- except for the loss of data.

Thanks again,

Melvin Woody

I use FastBackup on my nB with CronTab. Yes, it runs even when the nB is off. I don't use FB on my 5mx because I had the 5mx before the nB and before FB was written. Until Martin Guthrie (I think it was him) made a CronTab fix, I found CronTab very erratic - would run sometimes and not other times (I was trying to use it with another app). the "fixed" app has been running just fine on the nB.

FYI, anything earlier than the 5ive is a complete stranger to me. :-)

BTW, what's happened to Martin? He hasn't been seen on his web site (the Psion app collection) since last January.

In any case, I guess I'm too lazy to uninstall Sprenger's "Backup" app, install FB and CronTab and set up CronTab. For me, FB is not the easiest thing to set up and it took a lot of help from Handley before I finally got it working OK.

Dear all,

after having installed Free World Mate, Y Browser and Y Tasks (on the micro SD card) on my new E61i, there is no way to activate Bluetooth on the device.

I tried already to:

- take out the card
- de-install the three apps (there were others)
- re-set the original phone setting (with the lock code)
- re-set the unit to a former back up when BT was working
- and - finally - re-install all firmware anew (after saved my data on the card) on the smartphone, which went back to the "as-bought" state.

However, there is still no way to activate BT.
Of course, I checked I am not using a profile which does not allow BT.

Any clue, before I return the device for repair?

Thanks,

Franco - Brussels

Yes it will - that is CronTab's whole purpose.

Just make sure that you use FB's supplied macro, and read the docs on how it's supposed to be used.
