Subject: Update Siemens M65
Have solved my problem with my phone finally when finding the german yahoo-group psion-de. They have a patch file for Psion designed for connecting to M65 and that works perfectly. All the settings in my previous message was correct, it was the netBook that couldn't handle it.
Instead I have another question about mobile connection. Is there anyone who managed to connect a modern mobile phone designed for G3-connection to a Psion for mailing or internet? Would be very interesting to hear if there is anyone who's got a faster connection than gprs!

PSION 5 and Email.
Following interest expressed after my recent posts I have set out my experience so far.
RECEIVING email using the Psion Email application
This has turned out to be straightforward with both the Nokia 6310i ( on Virgin )and the N73 ( on Vodafone ). I use BT Yahoo emal. The material Psion settings for both phones are:
POP3 Server mail.btinternet.com
MODEM -Init string ATZ
Data and Fax init strings "blank"
Flow control - Hardware RTS/CTS
Terminal and Carrier detect both "blank"
INTERNET -Connection - dialup
Smart dialing - blank
Dial up- *99#
Account - blank
Addresses - get IP / DNS addresses from the server
Login script - blank
PPP extensions - blank
Allow plain text authentication
Attachments are received ok.
SENDING Email:
Regretably my initial conclusion that I had sending working with the N73 was incorrect . The first "success" clearly a "one off".
Sending Email has been complicated by the almost universal introduction of SMTP authorisation which the Psion email software appears to be unable to cope with.
As a new Psion user ( secondhand from Ebay ) I see that this issue has been discussed here and elsewhere over the past decade.
With the Nokia 6301i I changed my outgoing server to SMTP.com which does not require authentication.
The Nokia N73 did not respond to this approach. Message Suite will write diagnostic files to C:system/Logs/ (folders Email, Mailtext, Netdial ), These showed that the N73 software or the network were adding an authentiation request to the data stream.
The literature has two main suggestions:
1. Using SMTPauth software which adds authentication to the data from Psion Email, The literature indicates that this requires a fair bit memory and may not work on pre MX machines (not sure of this last point ).
2. Using an allternative mail program such as XJMail. I have taken this path and am back on line with a keyboard instead of a phonepad. This software is at http://www.hi-ho.ne.jp/~ktkawabe/densha_e.html
Hope this answers the questions and has not bored long time Psion users.

Subject: M5000 backing up/ restore
I now have the orange badged M5000 made by HTC.
It runs Windows Mobile 6 - and seems remakably stable compared to WM5 on an M2000.
It has a larger screen and keys, and text size.
Contacts and calendar seem improved.
I am hopefully only an occasional phone user now I have retired.
It doesn't clash with my TomTom sat. nav.
What software should I use for backing up and restoring?
Is there a way of getting a Big Clock display?
Where should I look for software generally?

Subject: SaveMail, REM, and DSL connection via emulator
Hi, can anyone tell me where I can find copies of the programs SaveMail and REM? All the links I've found are dead...
A second question, I couldn't find anything in the digest archives about using email in Windows Epoc emulator with a connection via the PC's DSL hookup? Is that possible, and, if so, are there instructions anywhere??
Thanks,
Rick

Subject: File corrupt!
Hi again!
I left this forum some years ago when I moved to a Windows
Smartphone mobile. Then my wife - who up til then had been
using a Series 3 Psion - inherited my MC 218. It has served
her well until two days ago.
Suddenly when she was to save a new entry in
Calendar/Agenda, the Psion reported "File corrupt" and
saving was not possible. No other messages as far as I know.
She came home from work and asked me for help. All I could
do was to certify that the Agenda file on the flash disc
somehow had been corrupted. The file name was now something
like û'ü with a down arrow at the end. It can not be read,
it is not possible to display the properties or change the
name of it.
My wife had trusted in me when I had told her that this was
a safe store media, so she had not been taking any backups
for the last half year or so...
I think I remember reading something on the Digest on a
similar problem some years ago, and I promised my wife I
would contact the Digest to see if I could come up with
something. Is this a lost case, or would it be possible to
restore the corrupt file in some way.
Any suggestions?
