This seems indeed to be file-system corruption - there's a lot of talk about that in the Digest a few years back. The exact cause and remedy remained unexplained, I believe, but the problem used to be quite frequent.

Happened when CFs were used for transfer between PC or Mac and Psion: this destroys data after a while, with occasionally funny symptoms (like doc-names changing cartoon-wise before your eyes into garbage...). And in any case, or maybe up to, Mac OS 9 and Win 2000 or NT (I dunno, I stopped doing it frequently). I use a dedicated and unimportant CF for cross-plattform transfer.

You may be lucky and recover some docs - copy one by one on the Psion or use a backup-software; trying to recover from/on a PC might accelerate/worsen corruption. The Atelier Tools never worked for me.

The good news though is that I never saw a CF gone for good. It should be ok upon reformatting. Several attempts might be necessary, maybe in a camera or reading device. Reformat it again in the Psion at the end.

Hope this and what the others said may help you find out what to do,

best

Re.: I'll ask! - I am not sure what the maximum size is but I use a 2Gb card in the Qtek 9100 without any problems.     unfortunately I am not the one to ask about MP3 files. I must be the "last one in the UK" not to own an iPod and not to listen to music on my phone but for a few songs I once put on there for fun.

Best regards,

Itamar

*  Secondly does anyone know where to find an English operating system *  for the MX Pro?

Hello John,

Look at www.pscience5.net
There you can find the OS.

I've posted here about my new BlackBerry.  It's getting clogged with all the e-mails sent and received.
But although the salesman and documentation says that I can manage my e-mails - I can't.
Syncing to Windows Outlook with sync, the BlackBerry's Memos to Outlook's Notes works.  The addressbook in Outlook looks OK for each entry, but can't paste to send.  I only get punctuation symbols instead of an address.   No e-mails get synced.
A printer can't be connected to the BlackBerry.
Psion folk have faulted the sync with PsiWin, but the BlackBerry's is virtually useless.
Has anyone got a Nokia E61?   Is it any good?
I still use a Psion 7 or net!Book as my main desktop (and while away for a time) and a 5mx or 5mx PRO for everyday walk about.   EpocSync keeps both up to date with each other.  I can't see this changing.  (I keep one of each as a spare and rotate)
Can an E61 and a Psion do the following?
Exchange files (.TXT, .DOC, .PDF & .JPG) between each other.
Use and save these files as attachments.
Transfer e-mails to the Psion as text files with To, From, Date & Subject headers as a single operation.   That is without using the clipboard 5 times (once for each part) for every email.
Manually place e-mails in folders dependant on subject
Or is there a better device than the E61?
Alan

Subject: Earthlink Down

Anyone using Earthlink in the US having trouble sending email?

I visited my sister in Idaho this last Friday.  Took my 5mx with me but didn't connect.  Came home Sunday night and connected to pull down email and send a couple I had written while on my trip.  Received ok but can no longer send email.

Thought it might be the 5mx so tried with my MBook.  Same with the MBook.

I called Earthlink and they told me to change my Outgoing Email (SMTP) Server from. mail.earthlink.net to smtp.earthlink.net.  Tried that without any effect.

I suspect that Earthlink made a change but as usual can't find anyone
at Earthlink who is familiar with PDA use on their system.

I may be in read only mode on my 5mx.

TIA
