Hi, Jim,

I'm amazed that you've been able to send Earthlink mail at all with your smtp host set as "mail.earthlink.net"  Never seen that before.

As for its new replacement, EL gave you the wrong smtp address.  It should be smtpauth.earthlink.net.  If you've been sending through ER5's regular email program, this address won't work--EL needs smtp authentication.

I use XJMail to send EL mail from my Mako, but I know that most 5mx folk use another smtp authentication program, a hefty program that can install on a
CF card and I believe can be used in conjunction with ER5's email program.

Go to Mr. Cube's site at:

http://www.mvcsys.de/doc/smtpauth.html
and this will get your EL mail sending in order.  You'll need to install Java before application will start.  That's why I use XJMail, since it's a smaller program.  But XJMail has its tricky moments as well.

Wish I had known about mail.earthlink.net.  Would've been fun to use.

Jake

Reply to Alan R Morris regarding "New device wanted!"

>>Has anyone got a Nokia E61?   Is it any good?<<

As a Psioneer you may also be interested in the Nokia E90 smart phone. You can find a detailed comparison to the E61i etc at Steve Litchfield's site : -http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/grid.htm

The E90 is currently just beginning to filter back on to the market place having had a mixed reception, a few teething problems and being temporarily withdrawn.  At present I'm tracking the situation, keeping a note of problems/solutions and generally waiting for the dust to settle.  The inbuilt office application does not entirely replace that on my 5mx in that charting is not available in spreadsheets.  I'm hoping that the device will recover lost ground and that an acceptable office application will eventually be produced.

I have an E62 here in the states.  I haven't tried to transfer files to one of my Psions but it does transfer very nicely with my PC.  Nokia PC suite is very good as far as I am concerned sync well.  I am extremely happy with my E62 and gladly recommend it to anyone.  We don't have the (i) version here like the E61i.  If they did I might want it as it as a few more options, but having said that the E62 is great.  I have been looking at the E90, as I also have a 9300, but first of all they don't offer it in this country and secondly the price to me is way over the top.  For that $1200 I can buy a laptop or other device.  If they came down to a reasonable price I might consider one.

Thanks,
Bobby

Did anyone mention this?

A lot of mainly Apple and OS-history stuff, quite entertaining and informative.

Best,

Errrm, sure it will work - but only for files/folders that are not
corrupt yet.  The idea is to save stuff that is not yet damaged.

We'll have to disagree here - sure it *might* make it worse, but my
experience is that it generally works.  At least well enough to
recover more stuff, before a full format.

Absolutely, if you can justify spending the money, for something which
may or may not work any better than a free (well abandonware)
solution.

However, it is worth remembering that the Psion's FAT format is subtly
different to that used by Windows, so it is quite possible that
Windows tools may not work (hence my recommendation against ScanDisk).
But at least a copy & recover tool cannot make it any worse :-)

Sound advice - CF cards (under 1GB) are sooo cheap these days.
