Personally, I would consider the EEEPC to use as a development machine more than a PDA. The N810 has a nice form factor that fits easily in my pocket. I should also mention that there's a rumored EEEPC with a 10" screen and 1Gb RAM coming in 2008 (this is what Im waiting for).
BTW, both machines run Linux and so both really need some more PDA-oriented applications. But, the EEEPC runs a 'regular' Intel version of Linux and so you can run pretty much mostly standard Linux desktop applications. Porting apps across to the N810 require a bit more
work to fit into the GUI and smaller memory/CPU footprint. The GUI on the N810 is very nice - much better than the 770 or the N800 (which I also
own).
These days I wear a developer hat so Im already seriously looking into writing something similar to Psion Data which is sorely needed before retiring my aging collection of Psions. I would consider running PalmOS apps under Garnet a step backwards :-)
Ive been travelling in Spain over xmas (Im writing this on the N810 in Barcelona). I signed up with Boingo for mobile WiFi access ($7.95/month - see mobile.boingo.com) who have around 60 access points here. Two great uses stand out for me: being able to use Google Maps for directions and finding places; and Gizmo for making VOIP phone calls back to the US.
At 2c/min, my $10 call out credit goes a long way! Both apps work great for me.
Ill write some more in a few days.
