Chr+Tab works with the built-in apps, but in OPL apps, I need to press Menu first.

Sure, as long as your router's security is WEP (as WPA is not supported) :

Control Panel > Ethernet icon, Edit button, (Device) Options button (or Ctrl+O) in the Service tab, then select the Encryption tab, tick
Enable encryption, then finally enter the password in "Key 1".

If you don't have an Encryption tab, then your Netbook doesn't support
it for the WiFi card that you have.  Both compatible Buffalo & Orinoco
cards should support Encryption.

Actually I did become aware of the Chr+tab when trawling for info
(alternatively RTFM would have helped!), but in practice I've found it
more trouble, basically because I usually hold the open phone in my left
hand rather than my right. I used to love the Crtl+Space of FileSwitch
for this very reason!

Dear All,

I was a Psion user (3a, 3mx and Ericsson MC 218) from 1995, and having suffered more than my fair share of cable problems,  later moved onto Palm M100, Treo 90 and finally to Nokia 9300i. The latter I lost recently, and am now considering Nokia E61i and Treo 680 as replacements. Treo has one advantage, as it can run Money package which can sync with MS Money on the desktop which I use regularly.

Can the users and those knowledgeable on E 61i and Treo 680 give me advice on which one is the better out of the two? Any information is most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Regards

Wajira Perera

Dear Melvin,

I tend to rely on others to answer these sort of questions, as I'm really no expert, but my suggestions would be:

1. Don't know anything about Makos, but I'd still try uninstalling PsiWin, then use the registry cleaner app (do a search for Psiwin Reg clean in Google), and then reinstall Psiwin. I don't think it works on Vista.

2. On the mbook, the most advanced security you can use is WEP, which is not very secure, but better than nothing (modern kit uses WPA, so check that your router isn't set to this). However, you need a wireless card with a Lucent/Hermes chipset to do so, others don't have this feature (i.e. they have no security). The recommended card is the Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11GP, although they're hard to come by these days. See here for a list (it also has some helpful instructions, further up the page):

http://www.epocfaq.co.uk/faqNetworks.htm#LANcompat
If you've got a suitable card (if you haven't, you won't get the following options), then go to "Control Panel" -> "Ethernet" -> "Edit" (whichever settings you want) -> "Options". The final tab will be "Encryption", and you can here enter your WEP key that you've already entered on your router (either ASCII or HEX).

Finally, for an added bit of security, set your router to do MAC filtering (nothing to do with Apples!), and enter the unique MAC address of your wireless card (which should be printed on the back, or you can access it from NetStatRF). You'll also need to add the MAC address of your laptop.

Hope this helps,

Ed.

Re.: HTC Universal Reset - I advice you to back up with SpBackup. It will make a full back-up of the internal disk but you can always decide to restore only the PIM details if you don't want the system to be restored as well. The resulting back-up file is an .exe file and does not need any program to run.

Best regards,

Itamar

Hello everyone,

I'd like to experiment with using IMAP on the Psion 5mx. My Email Getting Started Guide tells me, in the section Setting up the Email Program, that I can, "If the Mailbox type line is displayed, choose the mailbox type, e.g. 'POP3' or 'IMAP'." This refers to the dialog box for adding new email accounts.

I can't get any further, though, as the Mailbox type line is never displayed. I've tried this on all my ER5 machines. Each of which credits IMAP programmers in the About dialog box, so the feature should apparently be present. Is there some hocus pocus I need to do to get this line to appear?

Subject: EPOC32 Games Database - a milestone

Hello everyone,

Today, for the first time, downloads are available from the Psion games database.  Currently I have downloads for 32 out of the 315 games.  As twelve random games are selected from the 315 each day, I make that a daily 72% chance of seeing at least one game with downloads available.

This will increase as I make more downloads available.  I hope to have everything that is legally distributable available within the coming month.  It may take me half that time if I get really keen.  Full sized screen shots, by the way, are treated as download files.  The browser should display them rather than downloading, unless you tell it to do otherwise.

The database currently resides at:
