The Asus Eee certainly looks like a terrific little machine, but it
doesn't do *everything* a Netbook does:
* No touch screen - but a future Eee model is rumoured to have one.
* Only 3-4 hours battery life, not the Netbook's 5-6 hour battery life (or more like 10 hours with a modern battery).
* No as robust as a Netbook; not seen one myself, but I doubt it is
more robust than a normal laptop (excluding the solid-state Hard Disk
of course).
For some people those differences won't matter one jot, while for
others (like me) they will. I am looking forward to seeing a
touch-screen version - although having recently bought a rather more
expensive Panasonic Toughbook CF-T5, I am unlikely to buy one
myself...
A Nokia N810 might make a better companion to a laptop (due to it's
instant-on capability, unlike a laptop or Eee PC), were it not the
lack of PIM software (although www.pimlico-project.org may change
that).

Correction! It seems that the Dates & Tasks part of Pimlico are already ported to the N810 :-)))
I may have to seriously consider getting an N810 now, if I can confirm that Dates has working Alarm support (it may not) !
Could a kind hearted N810 owner test out Dates (it's a simple install I think) to see if Alarms are (a) allowed, (b) work when the N810 is in 'sleep' mode ?

Tim,

Orange maintains.
The Log on my Nokia 9300 seems to prove me right; unfortunately I can find no way of getting the telephone log from the Nokia into another program.
Is there a way of doing it ? I see the log can be printed but I don't see how to print via bluetooth.<<
Interestingly enough, I have had exactly the same problem with Orange in Holland. They say I downloaded 28MB in a 2 hour period the same day my new month started, I (and my phone, an E90) both maintain that I did not. In fact, I probably haven't downloaded much more than 28MB in the three years that I have had my contract with Orange.
I came across a free program to export my E90 log as a CSV file, which I converted to Excel; I burnt this onto a CD and sent it with a letter of complaint to what Orange laughingly call Customer Support. Before I did this, I rang Nokia Nederland; the tech support guy I spoke to assured me that it was impossible for my phone to download so much data without it being logged, and even offered to back me up in my complaint to Orange, which I thought was pretty decent.
Mind you, even this wasn't enough for Orange. Normally I pay €22,50 per month, of which €6 is reserved for 2MB of data. However, this month, Orange have decided to charge me €28,50 instead of €22,50, because my credit was used up so quickly; needless to say, I am not impressed, and have my suspicions that this is only happening as it's my last month as a subscriber, before swapping to T-Mobile (with an unlimited data plan!).
Cheers, Ian.

In the log program:
1. Go to print
2. Select Options (CBA button 3)
3. Change type to File
4. Change Printer to General
5. Select Done
6. Select Print to print the log to a text file
7. Transfer the text file to your PC

Hi TC,
The more I use it the more I like it. It is so easy to use and the OS is so transparent that for the normal use you wouldn't know the difference. When I save a document menu comes up and the first thing on it is saving in MS word. I will just say about your SD card when I talked to the Asus they haven't tried a 16 GB card. It has only been tested with an 8 GB and it does work fine. If the 16 works you might let us know. I bought a Kingston 8 GB SDHC card and it works fine. One thing I am trying to do is find an ebook reader. It has one and its fine except it doesn't do the Mobipocket format stuff. I look on asked Mobipocket and they said they don't support it yet. I would imagine if they had enough inquiries they might. Many of my ebooks on my Nokia's and Psion's are PDB files and some of the other more common ones that are not on the Asus. They do however have the Acrobat ebooks so I am going to try that format and see how it does. I have looked for awhile for a third party ereader that might have more capability but haven't found one yet. My next move is to put my contacts on my Asus but I don't know of any way to move from one to the other so I will probably have to do that manually.
I like it very much.
Thanks,
Bobby

I have this program for sale. It is a European route planner for the Symbian UIQ smartphone like the 910i. It works more or less like the TomTom program with minor differences.
Anyone interested please email me.
Best regards,
Itamar

Re.: Advantage 7501 > x7510 - Well, I do wireless email and web on my netBook with a WIFI card. However, the use of internet I find somewhat lacking, too slow when building the more heavy pages. I think it all depends on how much and what you do on the internet. Otherwise, just go for a light laptop. I have got a DELL XPS that weighs only 1.8 kg and I take it on all my business trips and holidays. But, it is not a handheld like the Psions.
Best regards,
Itamar
