This unit is great and it works great on WiFi.  I use mine all the time with WiFi and no problem at all.  I still like my original Psion stuff but I really, really like my Eee PC it's a great machine and does so many more updated things that my Series 7 and Netbooks did.  They are and were great and way ahead of their time and still are in some ways, but there are so many new programs and other things that are needed today that the Eee PC fills that need.  Again nothing wrong with Psion's believe me I love them but the only thing that I don't have is a touch screen and it is handy but there are so many more things it can do that that is a minor inconvenience.

Thanks,
Bobby

Hopefully it follows the trend of mobile phones and plummets in price rapidly after launch. I intend to wait a year and see where it's at.

In the meantime I have taken delivery of a Zaurus C1000 to not quite replace my mbook.

Warm regards,

Koi Hin

Dear John,

Connect to your mobile phone through USB cable? You can also add BT functionality to the eeePC and connect that way.

As for internal modem I presume you mean the old dial-up through phone line at 56K method? Interestingly in my part of the world, such dial-up services are being discontinued by the telecom companies because just about no one uses them any more. Broadband here is ubiquitous and prices start at  ~5 Euros for a 1mbps unlimited usage line.

Last year I signed up for a mobile broadband 1 year contract which gave me, for a little over 7 Euros a month, mobile broadband connection through my SIM card on HSPDA up to 512Mbps. Granted it is not fast but it is good enough for my needs. They capped usage at 50Gb but I never seem to even hit 10% of that. They thoughtfully provided an additional SIM so I can use a Huawei Modem with my laptop and my mobile phone gets to surf the net at HSDPA speeds as well at the same time

I am waiting for the next generation eeePC which promises a larger (8.9") and hopefully more usable screen for my needs.

Warm regards,

Koi Hin

There is news from the Nokia Tablet Forum that may be of interest to
you, Denis.

http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16306
It is possible to port the Classic Macintosh OS to the Nokia 800/810.
Which means that you can run things like Word and Excel on a pocket
machine.

Or even the inestimable word processor, Nisus, which in its Classic
incarnation, can talk English, French, German and Spanish.

http://www.nisus.com/
Go to the Nisus forum and you will see that Nisus on the old Mac OS
was the Holy Grail of word processing.

The Nokia 810 has a qwerty keyboard. But don't forget it is NOT a
telephone.

http://maemo.org/downloads/OS2008/
I have one but find I don't use it much because the Nokia 9300 answers
all my needs. To all intents and purposes the 9300 is the nearest
thing to a Psion Revo. And unlike the Psion, the Nokia 9300
communicates with the Mac via Bluetooth. So the main use for the Nokia
800 (which has a the Unix Maemo OS) is for listening to BBC Radio 4
around the house. It can also function as an FM radio.

However, if you're in an environment of readily accessible wifi, you
won't need a phone because the Tablet runs Skype.

Best

Easy peasy with a dongle: http://three.co.uk/personal/products_services_/mobile_broadband_/index.omp
Works straight out of the box.

Re.: DELL XPS - Well, discussing a laptop is slightly beyond the scope of this digest. However, I took the fairly standard version as I don't need to do much heavy work on it. I took it with the fingertop recogniser for logging in but find it a p.i.t.a. to use. Success, I am sure you will like it. The screen is very clear and it is extremely light for a laptop.

Best regards,

Itamar
