I agree completly with Kit Byatt on nokia E90, and I could add many aspects in which the E90 is inferior to Psion (for instance I found it impossible to change any setting related to the menus or to create any shortcuts or to access the agenda files) but maybe I am as old as Kit. The only thing I found is a small trick to keep open two quick office files: open the firs with QO and the second with file manager (but you should not have installed Office Suite)...

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to give us your comparison of the e90 vs 5mx. I have been tracking the progress of the e90 on the forums for many months and trying to judge whether it is past it's early teething problems. I have gained the impression that the version with the revised keyboard profile has already been deployed in some countries and it was my intention to get one within a few weeks of it's arrival in Britain.
Stability is of paramount importance to me so could you please tell us which version of the firmware is installed on your device. For what it's worth my impression is that 7.40 is less stable than it's predecessor 7.24 (at least in the USA). However, from the limited feedback to date version 200. , also currently being deployed, seems to be an improvement on both.
Apart from the Contacts and Calendar main interest is in the spreadsheet application. Compatibility with M$ Excel is of only limited importance to me but the ability to readily chart data is crucial. I understand that OfficeSuite v4 has charting but since their website does not give much detail I'd appreciate anything you can tell us about it.
Thank you
David

Thomas,
You could try TreePad Linux as a replacement. I have been using the Windows version for years and find it great.

Things that I am still in need of are: .........
2. Jotter. I have meeting notes from 2000 on in Jotter. I could survive exporting this to .txt for archiving purposes, but I would like to have another program, that could group meeting notes in some kind of freeform database. The EEE comes with Notes - yellow stickies - but that's not it.

Copyany.exe is probably the most used program on the XP computer I use
for the internet.
My Psion 7/netBook is always connected by cable, when it's on my desk.
A common clipboard, to me is most important, as the Psion is my 'Master
computer'.
Recently XP started to decide to re-boot for no apparent reason.
Eventually, I noticed that it occurred as I stated to use the Psion.
This install of Windows is due for it's replacement, but I thought I'd
mention it, in case others have had Windows re-book for no apparent
reason.

Subject: Asus eee
With all the enthusiasm expressed for the eee on the Digest, I decided to take a look at it - on the web. I think it would be great to have if I were doing something other than what I do.
I got it's measurements, and it wont fit into my handlebar bag. I have yet to find anything on the market that will replace my 5mx for bike trips. I use Word to keep a daily diary; Biklog5 for my ride record; Data for entering what/where/when for every photo I take; abp to keep track of my spending; occasionally use Collins French-English and German-English dictionaries; DreamConnect for contacts; CronTab to
run Backup every night; Macro5; Crypto for financial info.
I used to use Route and Citymaps quite a bit, but now have a Garmin GPSmap60CSx on my handlebar and have loaded almost all of Western Europe and about 1/2 the US onto a 2GB Micro-SD card. I have a lot of other apps on it, but don't use them a lot.
The 5mx in its hardcase and my Nikon D50 digital SLR with a 18-200 (equates to 28-300 on a digital camera) zoom lens fit nicely into my handlebar bag.
Some will probably tell me I could carry the eee in one of my rear panniers. But that's a real hassle when I want to enter data after each photo. I'd have to get off the bike, park it, get the pannier open, enter the data, and close up the pannier before getting back on my bike. Also, I use my handlebar bag as a shoulder bag when walking around town and wouldn't be able to have the eee with me.
BTW, I do have a reputation as a pisser and moaner, as you can probably tell by now. :-)
Since I'm on "vacation" I'm not interested in staying in contact so don't use e-mail or access the web. I do carry a pre-paid phone card and phone home about once a week. As a military retiree, I get a fairly good deal on rechargeable phone cards. I do carry a cell phone here whenever I'm away from the house - but I'm not on "vacation"
then - just retired. :-)
So until someone comes up with a machine which will do what I want *and* fit into my handlebar bag - I'm sticking with Psion!
Happy Cycling,
Keith
