Subject: HTC Touch Dual as replacement

<<<Re.: Qtek 9100 replacement - Thanks for yr answer and the Touch Dual
has now replaced the Touch in the UK so I have been told, the HTC
Touch has beendiscontinued.     I think this phone might well meet my
requirements of more or less the same functionality as the Qtek 9100
without the keyboard and so being slimmer and somewhat smaller. The
dual comes with a sliding numeric keyboard which I did not want
either, but what can I do. The screen is a proper "touch screen" which
can be used with your finger or a stylus.  I might switch from
Vodaphone to Orange to get this phone free of charge.

I have been lurking for a while, but when I found Itamars comment about the HTC Touch Dual I decided to post again.
As a long time Psion user, 3 years ago I switched to a Qtek 8020 Widows phone. Have been very satisfied with that phone (occasionally I have with ease used my Freedom bluetoth keybord).
2 month ago I upgraded to a Touch Dual from Telenor Sweden almost free of charge. It is a great little machine with a fantastic flexiblity and access to the almost endless Windows sw catalogue.
I have but 3 negative observations:
- my phone runs Win mobile 6.0 and there are some flaws in the OS still. However, I am told that an upgrade possibility to 6.1 is in the pipe
- the battery life is far from what you could expect. Being a power user with bluetoth and HSDPA use, I sometimes find that the battery does not even last one day. I am looking around for slim batteries with better capacity (anybody heard of such a thing?)
- the phone does not have WiFi (which of course would drain the battery still faster)

Best regards,

Subject: CF cards - formating of:

I have taken the view with all my cameras, Psions  etc. to format cards on the equipment they are used in.
I recently noticed that my Psion 5 (backup machine) formats 64mb cards as FAT 12 32 sectors per cluster wheras the 5MX Pro formats as FAT 16 2 sectors per cluster.
Diskbench v1.1 gives read / write times of
FAT 12 32 sectors : Write 3.5  Read .78
FAT 16 2 sectors : Write 10.08 Read .78

Is it worth tinkering with the formating of CF cards to get better data writing speeds? Or does Psion know best.

Regards

John.

I have a friend who is trying to send me an attached word processor file from a Microsoft Works on a 2003 Toshiba.  She can make a file and attach it and send it to me.  It is a .WPS document (Word Perfect, I assume.

I read the email just fine but the eee (or my desktop) will not will not read it.  Is there any way I can convert a .WPS document to a .DOC or should I have her buy a copy of word?

Actually, it's so cheap because they've skimped on RAM(only 128MB) and
FLASH(1GB)
I'M also not too certain about the build quality(whether its crappy or
merely mediocre)

Anyway, I've ordered one, and will give a report as soon as it arrives.
(For those worried about giving away creditcard details to a Hong Kong
based company; they use PayPal... )

Hi Itamar,

Have you seen the Touch Cruise ? - no keypad  :o)

http://tinyurl.com/6pp5at
I've been using a Windows Mobile 6 Palm Treo 750 for the last few months, It's very stable and works well with a keychain gps unit & co-pilot live 7 for sat-nav,
And a Slingbox for the full range of Freeview Tv channels  :o)

I use an 8GB microsd card with an adaptor and still have 2GB free on it despite loading all my music, videos,
And applications onto it.

Tiny Url for the Treo 750:

It's a pleasure to own a stable and quirk free smartphone.

Regards,
Mike Dyer.
